Full Version: [req] Halo Shotgun Revisions (animators Needed)

I very much like Darkkiz' Halo Shotgun except for the following things:

1. Lack of chrome shiny-ness in receiver, but that's taken care of (see file attachment, save as 256 colour bitmap)

2. Origins, so I put in: $origin -2.500000 0.000000 -0.250000

Need this --> 3. Animations. In the reload animation, it doesn't reload the way it does in Halo (reloads from receiver at the top), and also, the reload animation makes the hand very distorted (fingers start twisting in strange ways, palm grows larger). Fixed reload anims w/o distortion and reloads in the top (see next attachment) is what I am requesting... so if you have the time and know-how, please fix the animations on the v_sg and v_sg_hv models on Darkkiz' Halo Shotgun.

Oh, and another thing, the animations used for "shoot" makes the gun move up and diagonally to be pumped, but in the game, the shoot just causes a lot of recoil but MC just pumps it where it is (same position as idle, basically). If you could reanimate that part too, it would be appreciated...

I converted the model from Halo, it's unmeshed, no arms, etc... if you're interested, reply with post.

As far as I know, there is no way to extract stuff from Halo... the only files that have any significant amount of size are the files in the "MAPS" folder, which are all .map extension.

running wild converted the halo marine and one of the enemie models he was also working on converting the shotgun a while back

Hmm, I just found the "Halo PC Editing Kit", I'll see what I can do...

Just get Halo Map Tools, extract the .obj, open in max, reverse all normals, and re-mesh.
Or if you have Xbox, get the .map off there and you don't have to re-mesh.

Thanks, but is there a way to do it with only MS3D? I don't have 3dsmax...

The alien weaponry is a must... I think the Aliens in Halo should be instead of the Kharaa, but I guess it would be rather funky having those small annoying ones running in the ceiling screaming "CAN I HAVE HIS HELMET?"
(if you replace the Chuckle with the sound from halo tounge.gif)

But the Elite for Fade, just.. gosh, with the plasma blade for swipe and that plasma gun for acid rocket, and uhm.. yeah.. tounge.gif

I *might* redo that model, as i've improved a lot since that one(esp. Skinning). But yeah, i still can't animate wink.gif

I had the original Halo Shotgun model hanging around but it needed remeshing and i was too lazy to do that.

Yeah that was what I made it for, but it's not quite skinmeshed. Once it is, I'll release it.

Yep. Open the obj in MS3D. I dunno about reversing the normals, but if it looks borked (like all the faces are on the wrong side), there should be a way.

I already reskinned and reanimated the halo shotgun. I posted it int he T2K private forum I will release it when it's more polished and with darkkiz's permission.

How do I get the model into an .obj? I've been trying for hours... to no avail. Using HMT 3.5, f.y.i.

Not SDK per se... but some hack tools. And to extract the .obj files, heres a walkthrough.
Open map. I use d40.map ("The Maw") since it has most of everything in it. If you need the Scorpion tank, pick another map. The SP maps are all the ones that are a letter (a-d) and a two digit number (10, 20, 30, etc...)

Scroll down to "[mod2] Model (PC) ([somenum] items)" in the list, and expand. Here are the models from the map.

To extract, say, the shotgun, go to "weapons\shotgun\shotgun" and select the one with the highest # of verticies (the highest level of detail). Or, if its too high poly, try the next lowest. The different LoD's (level of details) are similar to the v_ models and the p_/w_ models from HL.

Click "export model". As far as I can tell, the dialog box that pops up has no purpose or implications. Import into MS3D/Max. In MS3D, normals appear, well, normal. All faces are on the correct side. In Max (even when exported from MS3D as a 3ds or something), the faces are borked. For max, convert to editable mesh, select all faces and flip normals. I'm not sure what to do for MS3D, since they appear normal in the program, but are borked when exported in any form... If MS3D borks stuff even worse (i.e. when compiled), just get someone with Max to flip the normals for you, or if you can do that in MS3D, do it.

Thanks, but for some reason, when I click on the "weapons\shotgun\shotgun\" it doesn't show the "Sub-objects" and render like in your window, only a whole list of values and stuff. I can't seem to change this...

Conversions get **** up from halo, where as you can make something new that this comunuty will either love or rip to shreads and flame you to hell biggrin.gif

All the faces are backwards on some models messing them up, like the AR

If someone wants to send me the obj file and textures for the Pelican w/interior, I'd be happy to fix it and export, botha as 3ds so it can be imported to bsp (and then you can walk in it), and as .mdl... I've been wanting it myself...

I asked my friend to send me the map from the XBOX disc but he said he couldn't find anything but video files on it when putting it in a DVD drive (PC). How do I get the model out of the XBOX version?
