how do you get duffman to mesh your model without first getting a skinner? D:
he says i have to get a skinner first if i want him to mesh my modle D:

that and burn DID have a skinner before duff meshed it...
i may be n00b, but i skin...
i also had a sneaking suspicion that others would skin it also... delta-snipe has started, and his WIP grip can be found on teh T2K forums... Drake said he'd try, if he has the time... to me, that sounds like THREE skinners that are "signed up"...
obst *might* be doing custom handgun animations for it, if not, i'll try to do them...
that sounds like TWO animators to do custom animations to me...
3 skinners + 2 animators = duff doing some awsome UV maps that i <3 him for.

Hence the word, "compact," in the topic title. "Compact" meaning shorter grip and barrel.
Note also that the picture you posted of a "real" SVI is a "shorter" version of the SVI that Vincent uses in the Cowboy Bebop movie. *EDIT* Actually, Vinny's is squarer.
Further note that
SVI [click for more from their own site, which doesn't seem to have received any updates to its 2001 catelog] makes an infinite [pun unintended, but gratifying nonetheless] number of customizations to the basic "Colt 1911" premise that they build on, which means they can pretty much do anything to suit your individual tastes.
Which means somebody happened to have a taste for the kind of compat thingy that Burncycle is pimping here.
I already released a custom SVI with that LAM, I think, unless it was just a basic tac light. I know I've worked with that LAM before. Long, long time ago, hacked from bits and pieces, reskinned and editted from CS weapons. If I remember my credits right, the LAM is from Warbeast, unless Burncycle remodelled it.

If you want it animated send me a smoothed/skinmeshed version. SO I can animate it now when I have time (weekend anyone?) and you can simply fart the skin onto it afterwards.

For crying out aloud...
That model contains 3153 polygons. That's a little bit too much for a pistol, don't you think?
Even the LAM thingie + the upper part is ~1000 polygons.
..Don't we all love booleans, ehh?

sounds like you need a new computer and stop trying to ruin our seckzeh high poly models ^_^

Yeah, it's a remodel.
I put warbeasts LAM there to see how it would look early in the project, and I thought it looked pretty tight. It wasn't an exact fit, and I wanted to make my own anyway, so I used warbeasts LAM as a reference and built another.

I called it an infinity because that's what it originally was. But it didn't turn out very well, so I was screwing around and came up with this.

Nah. It's high, but do-able, especially once backfaces you won't see in game are deleted (much of the other side of the pistol).

Well I'm sorry. The wireframe just looked so awful around that lam part (for example the holes) I thought it was made with booleans ;D
Maybe I'll start skinning this. Something to do now at night -_-

What do you mean looked so awful? There is a solid face there, with no missing faces and no overlapping faces. It's as good as it gets

The LAM for this model looks really bad. Just a flat surface with a cylinder and a few other shapes extruded from it.

this is an old thread yes, but there are hardly any in this "collaborations" sub-forum so a little bump can't hurt. Is there any progress on this model? If there isn't any I'd like to try skinning it. I just checked my PMs and found one from a month ago by Del about this model ( I think it was ). Anyway, the link to the skin above doesn't work for me so I don't know how far along this other skinner has gotten. Is it worth me starting?

I haven't seen any more progress from merchant yet, and it's been almost 10 days, so it's definately still up for grabs.

thats an old pic, thats the one that turned out looking like the DOD 1911, I reskinned it to look like.....something, not an svi though sorry. There are pictures around here somewhere (it doesnt say custom on it anymore). Its not even close to being done.
