1. So there I was, playing a game on ns_eclipse with massive ownage for the Aliens. We raped and raped and raped, and before you knew it, the game was over. I came back into the readyroom, a bunch of people started talking, then BOOM. It happened. The sounds just started looping. I tried it alt+tab, but no dice. I tried to ctrl+alt+delete, but no dice. After continuosly trying stuff to shut down hl.exe without restarting for about 15 minutes, I gave up. I restarted. I figured it was just a one time glitch, and went off to pug.
2. There I was, pugging. We had just taken down fusion hive on ns_tanith, I was hanging around Cargo fighting off Fades and Skulks, hopping around the room like a madman, having fun. BOOM. The looping again. I tried alt+tabing in vain and I tried ctrl+alt+delete in vain, no results. However, this time, after a while of moaning to myself, I got a BSOD where it some stuff about how something had entered a continuous loop and Windows could not continue. Ctrl+alt+delete once again, and I restarted. Good half, we lost with gimped teams.
3. It was the next half of the pug, and I had just gotten back in time to play. I was Fade, and around 3 minutes or so, I went Fade and started having fun. The time was about 5:30 and I was attacking the res tower in Chemical when BOOM. It happened. Again. I tried it all again, and I got my BSOD again, and I restarted again.
This seems to be a pretty nasty crash. Since I didnt get any crashes like this in 3.0b4 and have only gotten them in the hours after I got 3.0b4a I assume it *must* be an issue with the new patch. Please figure this out ASAP so that I could get to pugging without crashing.

NS 3.0 used to RANDOMLY REBOOT my computer. So consider yourself lucky. I just got some more RAM and it worked fine. HL mods have the tendency to crash if you have crappy RAM.

This is usually called a 'Freeze' where your PC gets a too high temperature that it freezes. Experienced this with NS all the time, the only thing that helped was to get a second cooler. Though a friend of mine has the problem that NS reboots his comp randomly in NS since beta 4a.

Windows XP automatically reboots your computer after a crach by default. By disabling this, you can actually (well hopefullt) see the actual error (usuallt via bsod). To do this, right-click My Computer, go properties, Advanced, Startup & Recovery Settings, and uncheck reboot automatically. A while back i was had lots of random BSODs in NS after i got a shine new Radeon, after i bought a new Power Supply, no problems since.
On another not, I was playing ns_lost a earlier today and EVERYONE was crashing, anyone else had the same problem?
Also if people "block" the rine-start doors in ns_eclipse (about 3 marines at once, it will send pings up and over 200 and the 56kers to overflow.

To whoever said some BS about my CPU temperature, youre wrong. This has *only* happened in the hours since Ive installed b4a and my load temp only goes to aboout 43ish. Dont give me any **** about how its my temperatures.
Ill try what you said about changing it so it doesnt restart though.

That was a little too strong

The devs might need more information about your configuration, so that if other people have the same problem, they can track the causes.

I've had a few crash/freezes while testing my bots but don't know if it's the bots fault or not :o
Could always make sure you are not overclocking your video card or anything, I've had most HL reboots/BSOD's caused by video card overclocking. But still get this prob in NS, not overclocking anymore.

I have the same problem. It has only appeared since the latest update and
is in no way related to CPU/GPU or any other temperature levels. The lock up of the game and looping of the sound happens randomly. If lucky, it will happen after an hour, but usually 15 mins or less.
When requesting tech support please provide full system stats, including:
- CPU: XP1800 AMD
- RAM: DDR 768
- Sound and graphics: Hercules XP Gametheater / Leadtek GF4 Ti4600 128ram
- Operating system: Win2K Pro (All updated)
- Graphics mode: OPENGL: 1024/768
- Random locking up of game and looping of sound, can only get out of NS by rebooting PC.
- NoEAX
- HL and STEAM
- Only happens on latest NS version!

Just found out that this crash is nothing to do with NS. Was playing TS 2.1 and it crashed as well - same lock up.
Anyone have any ideas?!

sound card. right click the speaker icon in the taskbar, select adjust audio properties, go to audio, advanced, make sure the right speakers are shown , then go to performance, adjust hardware accell and sample rate conversion lower.

Issue: Frozen Half-Life Application with sound looping forever.
OS: Windows 2000 SP4
MoBo: Syntax (ie, Generic)
Processor: AMD 2400XP
RAM: 256MB SDRAM
Video: GeForce II MX
Graphics Mode: OpenGL at 1024x768, Windowed, 16-bit color depth
Sound: SoundBlaster Live!
EAX: No way! (I think EAX makes things sound worse)
HL Version: Steam
Lowering the hardware acceleration seems to have fixed the problem; Thanks go to Raptor. I used to crash regularly, every 45 minutes or so, but I have just played for nearly three hours straight. Not sure why these problems would start cropping up now, but, well, oh well... Coding something as large as NS means that things are going to go awry from time to time. (o:
One of the benefits of running in windowed mode (Aside from being able to easily Alt-Tab out to ICQ et al.) is that I can just right click on Half-Life in the task bar, click close, reset gamma, and start everything right up again.

This doesn't actually work. All it has done has reduced the crashes a bit. Still get the odd one after 5 mins of playing. It definately seems to be soundcard related and winamp seems to effect the crashes, so close winamp before playing.

With me I'm pretty sure it is soundcard related, but I always close winamp.
I will try this acceleration fix..

Sorry, yes there are XP issues too.
For all, this site has many useful tips and tweaks, even for those who don't have problems. Found it on one of the other tech support questions.
When I ran the padefile defrag it found about 6 or so fragments. Also I had recently running ESF. The tips here solved my problems.
