I read MonsieurEvil's post on how to run the NsBeta files, but where ca you download patch 2, and where do you install 3.0 1, it won't let me choose anyplace, it installs itself to C:/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/my e-mail/NS it creates its own folder is that right?

You don't need patch 2, you need to install beta 1(The big 150MB thing) and then install beta 4.

Then is it ok that 3.0 won't let me install it anywhere else except where it puts itself? Because NS pops up in my games, when I go into it there are no servers.

No, that's not right. It should install itself inside a folder called nsp in the half-lfe directory. Have you played half-life at least once before installing?
That post is old. What you need now is the beta 4 patch.

3) install ns version 3 beta 4

let it install where it wants to, it's going to install itself in your half-life directory so don't bother touching anything, just hit next and let it do the work

To Topsy - It's messing up because you keep tampering with the default install path. LEAVE THAT ALONE.
As you have found out, some applications, like NS for example, will not function properlly if you change the installation path.
