I like the cave bit with the fog. And that skybox is nice too.

what do you mean by that?
Map related, those computer screens in the second pic do look a bit bright, also try adding a few more fog sprites as having so few looks awkward to me (unless your worried about performance issues).

Very nice, awesome skybox, was it you or Mr.Ben that started the glowing-organic-crystals thing?
On another note, I don't like how those fog sprites clip against the wall, creating an abrupt change between "fog background" and "un-fog foreground" Assuming that you're using the light halo entity (whatever it's name is), couldn't you center it on the passageway and make it fit exactly *in*? That would get rid of the clipping.

Looks pretty awesome, but I think you might have gone a bit crazy on the coloured lighting

Excellent brush/texture/ambience work though.
Seeing screenies of some of these great maps in here is kinda inspiring me to finish my own map :/
Yes one day nsmap.rmf will become ns_<can't think of a name>.rar !!!

I absolutely love the glowy-crystals... i may have to steal the idea for my map.

They just tie everything together...

Holy **** - Not only does it look good but you get the honorable master and commander Flayra coming out of hiding to see it... I tried for ages to do that! I layed cookies on the ground and even left out a plate of carrots and a glass of milk... He's the santa claus of the modern gaming industry..

an impressive skybox no doubt, but with a glowing green nebula nearby wouldn't one expect a bit of the ambient light to be tinted green? although i do realize that the artificial lighting of the station would largely drown out the light from outside, it would not be completely gone. i suppose that outdoor and darker areas would show this more. wouldn't this green also be noticeable on the rock faces?

Looking great, just a single remark on the texture alignement of those pipe textures: it kinda sucks, completely destroying the illusion of a round surface.
If you're a QuArK user, just use "wrap texture around pillar".
If you're a WC/Hammer user, I believe KFS placed a tuturial on curved surfaces a while ago that should help with this, albeit with a lot more effort and poorer results. Basicaly, try to increase the texture size and make it seamlessly stretch across multiple faces sideways.
And do you seriously need 200k per 640x480 jpeg image

Very colourful, I like

Though, as someone previously said, the screens are a bit too bright. Imagine you were looking at that late at night. Ouchies.

Hrmm in Hammer I made a curved surface on my map and stretched the texture across it...
From memory (been a while since I loaded up Hammer) select all the faces you want to use and I think there's an option there for "treat as one face" or something like that. I definitely remember doing it though - cos I was thinking "OMG what a godsend".

Looks good, but, I see a really big problem in shot five.
Notice how uneven the floor around the hive is. Thats going to be hell for both sides to build structures.
Swiftspear
Apr 22 2004, 06:21 AM
not so much the aliens, but hell for the marines, and hell for gestating.

I don't think that will be a very big problem, since co_ambeke is a combat map.
Mantrid
Apr 22 2004, 06:36 AM
Ah, okay, that is a good point.
But gestation still will be a problem, as Swiftspear said.
Zazi
Apr 22 2004, 07:08 AM
Not really. You can't gestate on surfaces whose angle is 45 degrees or greater, or where there is a seam of two brushes whose degree is eh... I forgot, but whatever. Point being, I have gestated in every bit of the hive and other infested areas; it is not a problem.
Belgarion
Apr 22 2004, 08:25 AM
furthermore, you can jump, then gestate. I've found this useful often. did you know you can splatter as an egg?
Olmy
Apr 22 2004, 09:31 AM
Yes belg, by jumping and gestating as an egg .

I think there is a lesson to be learned here, don't ever do it. Did it once while evolving to fade, then just dieing during the process.

I demand credit for fog and particle systems. ;D ;D
Seriously though, you know I love this level, and I'm really sorry I couldn't make those plane adjustments; your terrain confuses me.

I was going to try and rebuild some of in a more optimal fashion, but I was called away and didn't have enough time. My apologies.

)
on an unrelated note, I still think the uninfested areas are too dark.
