Before you ask,my sound card is an Nvidia Nforce Audio card. I have the latest driver for it. What happens is,when I get in a server and start playing my sound gets staticy. After any sound comes a huge wave of static in the sound and it's actually unplayable. Could someone suggest a way to fix this? Thanks a lot.

I have the same problem. It suddenly started to happen for no reason and now I get it every time. For some reason it's only happening for certain sounds (= I get it when i'm in Waste Hive on tanith, and when I leave it the static effect reduces, as the ambient sounds does). I have nforce2 as well.

it seems this problem is well known
i found a possible solution
all of u that have a n-force mainboard with dolby digital support should try one of these drivers :
29.38Experimental driver 29.3429.42 betaall of u that got a mainboard with a MCP Southbridge without Dolby Digital should try these :
Realtek audio codecs but users with an asus a7n8x cant use 6 channel sound with the realtek drivers
for all others the problem could be solved
if u can understand german u can read the article

Worked fine for me, though I had to alter some settings about my microphone.
Starman, try to check your motherboard manual (or constructor website), or your hardware in the system part of the config panel.

I have the same static problem as well. I updated to the latest nVidia audio set (4.31) and it cropped up. (nForce2 - A7N8X-X) I reverted to the original driver but the problem still persists. It will sporadically work yet other times no amount of reboots/restarts seems to have an impact. It only effects certain sounds. (Hive sound as mentioned, the 'ding' when you enter the game, etc).
About to throw my old Live card back in but every other game, including other HL mods seem fine. Only NS is effected so I can only assume something in the B4 patch or my driver update triggered it.

FYI: Using the generic Realtek driver from the Asus site seems to have fixed the issue for now. I really hope a dev can look into this though as it really impacts sound performance in other games by not being able to use the nVidia set.
It only occurs with NS. All other HL mods uneffected.
