Hi there everyone I'm afraid I'm having some trouble here and could use some help
first of all I'm running on Windows 98
I know this used to instal easy, but holy cow is it ever a pain now, I went though all the hoops downloading steam and the such, and now it won't load them, it says Update required, and it has the current version at 100% , and if I launch game it freezes, man what a hassle
anyone know what I"m doing wrong??
also is there anyway to run it the old fasioned way, all the download files auto install to stream

I'm assuming your referring to steam when your talking about installing..
I would first install steam, download half-life off steam (hopefully your on broadband) and then I would install natural selection..is that the way you did it...
if your having problems with steam not loading properly, delete the file in your steam directory called..ClientRegistry.Blob..this will force steam to download itself once again

well my main problem is that the dang steam thing keeps sayin that updates are required before I can run the games, but the update download is already at 100% with the most current version, so I don't know why it won't run, when I go to launch game it brings up a screen with three marines and it never goes past that screen, but I'll try deleteing that file and see how it works

oh great, I deleted that file and now I get illegal opperation whenever I try to run steam, dang it
I really wish they hadn't of changed from the old way of doing things, this steam thing is a pain, I can't use any of my halflife stuff cuz the thing keeps saying I need updates which I already freakin have

I assume you can get to the game selection screen.
If so, try right clicking on a game (except NS) and click on properties. It should be set to "Always keep the game up to date" or something like that. There is draw down menu to select this option, do so and start the game.
You will need to do this for each game, except NS.

WHAT curent version is %100?
Is this when you LAUNCH Steam and Steam is updating? (if sojust WAIT, seriously, Steam is wierd like that)
For now:
I would probably suggest compleatly uninstalling/reinstalling steam and NSP.

alrighty, for some reason, after a few days my old problem just went away O.o, I suddenly stopped getting illegal opperation and the things now say Ready to play,
.... however
when I hit launch game, a screen comes up (different for each game, such as halflife shows buddy and NS shows the three soldiers) but theres no menu on this screen and it never goes any further than this... lol from one problem right to the next I suppose .... alright after checking it again, I realized that this screen that comes up you can press the name or the steam icon in the corner... however neither button actually does anything after you click it

have you opened up the server window and tried to launch a game from there?
Omniblade

Well that got me a bit further, after opening the servers menu and changing it to NS, I get a whopping like 6 servers... 4 of which are empty, and when I DO join one of the ones with people, I can't move or anything, I can crouch and i can jump, but otherwise I cna't move or anything
when I press tab, there are no words, the only things I see are the lines dividing the teams, and the little speaker that should be across from each persons name, other than that theres nothing... .any ideas?

Well after alot of trial and error I managed to find the problem, turns out that it's the graphics thingy lol, on the screen where you normally have the game menu, I don't see any of the text unless I have the graphics set to Software,
note this includes the names of who I'm playing, along with everything written in text except what players say lol, I also noticed that the game doesn't run in software mode weeeeeeeeeeeeee, so I had to change to software, edit everything I needed then switch back, and even then I still can't see who I'm playing with lol but oh well at least it functions now! lol
