"Para" is the name given to a modified M249 used for paratrooper operations, called that because of its shortened barrel and characteristic extendable stock.
That specific M249 is also the one used in CS, hence the nickname.
See? Despite the fairy tales, some of us CS players do have common sense.

There is no M249 para, though there is the M249 MINIMI para.

It's still a MINIMI
M249 SAW is the oficial American designation... just like the M-16 in mid 1960's which was the AR-15 until oficial adoption ... later on it was so successful they switched the AR-15s name to M-16 ... but that's another story
EDIT: Correction - the AR-15s name was switched to M-16 due to the switch of manufacturer to Colt, no proper name created by Colt and thusly just became the M-16. Calling it an AR-15 is incorrect since it is no longer Armalite.
EDIT Again: Also calling it a PARA is incorrect, since there are many PARA's out there...

the m249 comes in different versions.. and they all have different callsigns.. like the minimi, and the SAW and .. so on and so forth.
