For starters, my system specs:
- I have a compaq presario 6040CA with a 2.0ghz intel P4 processor with a 533mhz fsb, 512 mb of ram, an 80 gig HD.
- Soundblaster Live sound card and Nvidia Geforce 2 agp 64mb graphics card.
- Windows XP
- Open GL 800x600
- My problem is as follows: I have problems with lag on ALL games that I play on steam EXCEPT for Counter-Strike. On counter-strike I normally have anywhere form 40-90 ping. When I try to play ANYTHING other than CS on steam, I can't find any servers with less than 200 ping on the server list...but when I connect to the server, my ping is from 500-800. I have changed my settings to dsl 256k and tried dsl 768k.(I'm have a DSL 256k connection). I have tried to play DOD, HL, NS and another game called The Specialists through steam but I encounter the same problem on all of them: Lag that makes the games unplayable. I have disabled QoP(or whatever that is called) on my network settings and tried many things(like altering rate, cl_cmdrate, etc) but nothing seems to fix this problem. I would appreciate any help very much!
- I'm not running EAX.
- I have Counter-Strike retail
- I use steam.
- I'm using 3.1 beta.
*edit* I have also deactivated auto updating on all the games I have on steam.
