After starting up Steam, and then half-life to play NS, I find a server to play in, obviously. And when I get to that server, once I'm downloading all that other stuff needed to play it, and am ready to go, I get an error saying "WARNING: cannot open ns.wad." Can anyone help me? I searched for ns.wad in my NS folder thing, and it didn't find it.

I don't know if this will help, but you said to do it anyways:

- Make:Dell DIMENSION DIM46000, Speed: 1.6
- * Don't know, I think NVIDIA for Graphics card. :\ *
- Windows XP: Home Edition

Did you just get the ns3.0 beta 3 patch but not the main ns 3.0 beta 1 installer?

Does natural- selection appear under third party games in your steam "games" list? If not it isn't properly installed.

edit: double posted, urgh...

I got both, it said too get 3.0 beta 1 first...

No, I don't think it does...How do I make it do that? x_X

I installed it in the Half-Life directory...Like it said o_o;
Soylent_green
hmm... Do you have a folder named nsp in your half-life folder?
Vivid
Yes, in fact, I do.
Soylent_green
...How big is the nsp folder?
Vivid
What do you mean, how big is it? o_O;
Soylent_green
right click folder --> select properties. How much data does it contain? Is it just the ns.wad missing or is it allmost empty?

It should be something like 250-300 MB.

edit: maybe the first install went into the wrong folder, like half-life/half-life/nsp and the beta 3 patch created an allmost empty half-life/nsp/ folder?

edit: just installing the beta 3 patch into an empty folder and nothing else gives you ~60 MB of stuff and no ns.wad(~55 files).
Vivid
Well...It's not empty...

But here's what it says:

QUOTE
Size: 97.0 MB (101,719,337 bytes)

Size on disk: 97.9 MB (102,682,624 bytes)

Contains: 437 Files, 38 Folders

I think that the ns.wad is all thats missing. :\ Or not. >.<

Have you tried running the beta 1 installer again(if you still have it) and seeing where it tries to write files? Does it appear to be the correct folder?

Weirdness, it seems to have installed some of the files it was supposed to and then just stopped in mid install without giving error messages(no way to get such a number of files or nsp folder size otherwise, and if it was giving an error and aborting the install you would have noticed.) confused.gif

I'll try....

Oh wait...I'm so stupid...x_x

I thought I downloaded 3.0 beta 1, but I dl'ed 3.0 beta 3 twice...x_x

Sorry about this..Some of the links on the 3.0 beta 1 lead to the 3.0 beta 3...I didn't read what it said...So I dled beta 3 twice..I'll get back to you when I get done downloading it and installing it.

Sorry about this sad.gif
Soylent_green
no problem.
