Team Specator.
I have played a lot of wars, pcw, scrims and gathers and I have also wanted to spec such games.
But spectator mode is to easy to cheat with so noone allows spectators.

Most other mods have team spectator modes so why shouldn´t we ?
This would be great for clans, being able to spec your own team and recording a demo to be able to improve your tactics later on.

Think about, ofcourse we need it! biggrin.gif

I already see the cmds:

jointeamone
jointemaonespec
jointeamtwo
jointeamtwospec

I also suggest an option to have passwords on teams and teamspecs.

What do you think?

EDIT: to clarify: teamspectator with optional password to prevent ghosting.

Disclaimer (I searched for "team spectator" and found nothing).

Try running through the portal with "Spectate" written on it some time. I personally have never know of a server that doesn't allow spectators, unless you are on a near full server and taking up a slot that a person who wants to play could use.

I think that he meant just spectate one team only, not be able to cycle between the two to eliminate ghosting. The only thing i can see that may be a problem is someone joining the other teams spectating view, and like pm'ing a friend on the other team. other than that, i concur

Actually, why not make the team spectators function as alternates, should one of the in-game players disconnect unexpectedly? The player joins either side, but before "ready" appears, they choose to go into alternate mode, where they are a spectator until either the game ends or someone on their team disconnects before the game ends. If someone on the team disconnects mid-game, an alternate instantly takes their place, holding their weapons, having their health and armor levels, res count, and so on.

They could wait in line... although I think it's better for them to play immideately, without waiting for others to leave. Why not bigger games smile.gif

I was talking about clan games in tournament mode. Let's say you have more than 6 people in the game, 6 are playing, and the rest are spectating/alternates. There's no point to alternates on a public server though.

Edit:
I suppose in public games, players over the concede limit would be kicked into alternate status instead of being able to play. There'd be no excuse to readyroom camp then. They could still play on their stacked team, though they'd have to wait for someone to disconnect.

The ability spectate has been removed from most clanservers, since cheating is possible for those that are spectating.

Odezzah wants the security tightened up to prevent that...by limiting the spectating...

Im for it...

Yeh you can uses a 3rd party voice comms

If you want to spectate then make a hltv on port 27016 on your local machine then connect to it via 127.0.0.1:27016, not only will you be able to spec(with a 30sec delay) but others will also be able to connect to you and watch

that is when they fix hltv anyways smile.gif

No we don't need to see this, we have this already.. It's called HLTV...
BobTheJanitor
Obviously you've never had to be an alternate in a match. Sitting in the readyroom for up to 45 minutes is NOT FUN. The point of this idea is to make it possible to watch the game while you're stuck in the game, without any possibility of cheating by spectating the other team. Make more sense now?

And the 5 second PM on IRC that any member of your team can do while you do something else is bad?

I just see this as fixing an issue that doesn't exist.

Watch the HLTV, if
the round ends you know within 30-90 seconds.. I've never seen a clan match start within 90 seconds of another round ending..

Plus most clans use ventrillo or Team Speak (heck even we use it), and you can hear that the round is over and you need to join the server immediately.

However, that's the reason I replied instead of locking, I suspect there may be more debate on this.
BobTheJanitor
Well the main reason someone is an alternate is in case a teammate drops in the middle of the round. It's the alternate's job to jump in immedately and take over for them. While HLTV is okay, it must be considered somewhat cheating to have knowledge of everything the enemy does, even if that information is delayed by 90 seconds or so. Where the chambers are hidden, exactly which RTs are up, where structures are located in base, which hive is currently building, etc. are things that don't always change within 90 seconds. In official matches the alternates are required to be in the readyroom and nowhere else from round start.

The best possible way would be to be able to spec only your team so you have up to the moment knowledge of exactly what they are doing, and so that if you have to jump in and take over for a dropped teammate, you know exactly what he was doing and how to continue it. If this is too much trouble from a coding standpoint, it's more a 'nice' feature than a necessary one, but it would be very much welcome, no doubt, by anyone who knows every texture and brush of the readyroom from having to stare at it for half of a mind numbing hour.

You have convinced me, I think this is a cool idea.

RobB
I think it's called subs bench - sounds nice.
But I don't play in a clan, so I dont care that much.
crisano
Having a feature like this would be cool. It'd certainly be entertaining for whoever #cri's 7th might be to watch Forlorn get telefragged as a fade fade.gif again. tounge.gif

If it's up for consideration, then for implementation consider the following suggestions: First, only enable it with tournament mode on. In normal mode, just stick to one spectator type like we have, to avoid confusion. Second, in tournament mode, just disable the 'spectate' command and the spectator portal entirely and require people to type 'specteamone' or 'specteamtwo' in console to join a spec team (perhaps add a tool tip about this that's trigerred if you try to enter the spec portal). Slightly complicated, but then again people playing in competitive games aren't the ones who we should be worried about getting confused by the game. Then just add another split to the scoreboard for team one specs and team two specs. (or color them blue and yellow to indicate the team that they're spectating) And of course, only allow chat to go to other players on your spec team.

Thanks for considering.
