This might be a silly question. I don't know what your reaction to it is, but whatever it might be it does not change my need.

When mapping, using origin etc is a tideous business if you have to use the entire halflife.wad every time. Did some searches on google, this forum, a few mappingsites but I must be using the wrong keyfords for I cannot find what I am looking for.

I've tried wally but for some odd reason it does not really like my ways of handling it =/

So, I am wondering if anybody out there has a fine little wad containing only the usefull wads such as origin, skip, hint, null etc? If not, then perhaps you know a link or know what keywords to use in order to search for it.

Thanks for all the help I might get.

If you have the half-life.wad I don't see the problem smile.gif

Just put it in your VHE directory and use it in the texture tab, Steam will know where to find the used textures from it's cache so you don't need to copy the half-life.wad into your steam directory.

Note sure about this one -->
The zhl.wad, which comes with VHE or the zhl tools at least has NULL in it, maybe some of the other "special" textures to. You could try that one...
(I'm at school at the moment so I can't check it)

I think your wanting to only have NS textures displayed to you? cause really the original HL textures aint much use in NS

anyway if you used *.wad containing textures from ns.wad and hl.wad then your going to have to distribute them with your map and force people to have two copies of the same textures

Hammer alows you to pick and choose between wads you want displayed

I remember reading somewhere that someone had issues when they compiled the sky, null etc textures into their map. I have never had any problems with it so I don't see why you don't just make a seperate wad and choose to compile it into your map so you wouldn't need half-life.wad and people playing your map wouldn't need a special wad with the special textures. If you have problems with the sky just being a plain blue texture and triggers looking like "attack of the purple monster" then you know that you will have to put up with having to browse through ...alternatively you could just delete the rest of the textures out of the halflife wad file and just move it from the directory whenever you run NS or whatever..cause the half-life wad is in the GCF file and so there should be no problem with it being referenced by the map cause steam handles all that crap quite well...

Don't take my word on this tho.. It's 12:18am and I'm really tired..

Thank you, I'll look for it then.

I know how to use and find the textures, just that I want them in one single wad without all of the halflife ones. I can do without 200+ fifties textures just wasting space wink.gif

Cheers.

Grab Wally from the files section of VERC and make your own WAD, it's incredibly easy.

Since i started mapping more and more for different mods, I created "Tailgunner_hlcollection.wad" I chose the most common Hl extures like SKY, AAATRIGGER, CLIP, all lights and such but also some regular textures that i like, and baked it all to a wad, its handy and not to big, guess I could upload that for everyone but Its easy to make, anyways if anyone wants it write, pm or mail smile.gif

Y'know, Cagey's custom build of ZHLT comes with a zhlt.wad that has the following texties on it: BEVEL, NULL, SKIP, HINT, etc...
Merl's custom ZHLT comes only with NULL, SKIP, HINT textures...

check on wherever you've got your ZHLT directory for a zhlt.wad... it should be there...

then, as they said, use Wally to add all the other texes ye want... marine.gif

what exactly does the bevel texture do?
