Recently I have been doing quite a bit of pubbing and just about every server I visit, I will get the same question at least once, if not more. "Whats that icon beside your name mean Jojo?" I have also seen people mistake the constellation icon many times for a dev icon. Here are the icons you might run into and what they mean.

I know the icons, and I have seen them around, but this would work a whole lot better if you actually had pictures of the icons. People will never remember what they have read here when they see the actual icons, they would have to see the icons first then go here for referance, and chances are they have already asked by that time.

Kudos for trying to do this though. If anyone would try and take this post to a higher level.

So I will try and be helpfull and say: If anyone sees andy of these icons try and take a snap of them and post them here, yeah, Jojoshua could then just update his post and link the images (after all, they are still only hosting within the forum )

I will go online on a server I know and I know I will find some good icons soon.

No, veterans are playtesters who were drawn from the competitive NS community for the purpose of testing the balance of 2.0 in clan play. None of these groups (except server ops) have special privileges on servers.

You're saying the rumours of a built in aimbot for Monse aren't true, eh...? Curious indeed....

When Valve releases the next version of HL, and Steam is needed for online play, all the Won IDs are gone. So, even if you donated, you will not have the icon anymore.

Whats the purple icon mean?

Are there ever going to be any more playtesters/veterans needed or is it at max? This is not a beg for a position. I just feel there is a lack of European playtesters/veterans etc. Most of the UK servers I play on have no "special" people on.

I sometimes play with fwd who are veterans and I've saw Nem once... But that's about it.

I believe the purple icon is playtest lead, which is Grendel's icon.

I have yet to see the Gold sulk for play testers.

Hmm... I'm going to start running CD each time I play just to have an Icon! ^_^

How do I get rid of those icons from my server?

The people with the icons can turn them on/ off. I don't think you can, at least I hope you can't anyway, those people earned their icons, they should be able to keep them up when they want to, not when you want to.

Side note: I guess the purple thing is new? A few weeks ago when I played with Grendal he just had the regular playtester icon, the yellow gorge.

Its auth to turn on and off your own icon..
its mp_uplink 0/1 to turn on and off the icons completely from a server. But its really not all that nice to do so. As Jane pointed out, they earned (or bought, as it is with the Constellation members) their icons. Be nice and just let them have their icons.

Yea, the purple one which does look like the old NS GUIDE icon is a new one for Grendel (PT lead).

And yes, let people have thir icon's.. they paid good money to support a kick **** mod.. and i stand by them.. Although mine got lost in the post lol..

does it automatically give you an icon to your wonid after you've played ns on a certain server for a certain amount of time ? or is it a special server plugin ? or do the mods choose certain players and they just give em an icon ?

You get these icons by doing something special for the community. For example, you get the constellation icon by donating money to NS (and you also get to playtest).

Or simply belonging to a Clan. See the main page for details.

So how do you get vet icon and vet status ?

I was wondering lets say you are a constellation member... and you play with cheating death, which one will come up, both, cd icon, or con. icon, just a thought...

That's a good question. I don't quite remember completely, but last time I saw a constellation member with Cheating Death on in a CD server, I think they both showed up. I'm not really sure as that was a long time ago and I just saw it in passing, I wasn't particularly looking at that player, not to mention his icon.

Is this true? I'm not sure if the tags will dissapear because I have seen the green tags in the KB server on steam. Am just interested incase I donate and get the constellation tag.

righty.. now this aint exactly the same but..

right im new (been playing for 4 days now), so dont slag me off for not knowing, coz i cant get a dignified response from anyone whilst in-game.

ok, in the bottom right of ur HUD as a marine, there diff icons. today i learned that they mean 'upgrades', such as pistols and armour. but theres one of a flexing arm which i just cant find in fronteirsman manual.

any clues?

The pistol is Weapon upgrades. The com gets them and it makes your weapon more effective.
The Armor torso is Armor upgrades, the com gets them to let you have more armor.
The Flexing arm is the Heavy Armor upgrade. This means the the com can drop you heavy armor from the Protolab, when he has enough cash.
The jetpack means you can get jetpacks when the com drops them.
The sensor sweep thin means that you have motiontracking.
I think that's it.

The flexing arm is the Heavy Armor upgrade. A suit of HA basicaly makes you a walking tank.

ah thnx, i think it must have been the jetpack one, coz it was a new pic, that didnt really resemble anything.

The Weapons and amour upgrades have 3 different pictures for them, relating to what level upgrade you have. A small pistol is lvl 1, A large pistol is lvl 2, A large pistol with a scope/laser sight is lvl 3. The armor upgrades are a little harder to describe, basically, the suit of armour just keeps looking bigger untill there is a helmet at lvl 3 along with the body armour. Hope this helps.

Oh, and if the Jet Pack or the Heavy Armour symbols appear, that means that you are actually wearing that item I believe.

Nope. Just that the comm has researched them.
