If you are interested in running an NS server for your LAN party or just for fun and you do NOT have an internet connection you should put this cvar in your startup line:
| QUOTE |
mp_uplink 0 sv_lan 1 sv_nomaster 1
|
This will disable the server's communication with ns.org (and WON) so will not retrieve a wonid db for those that should have icons(excluding WONID specified in mp_authicons cvar).
After that, just add your normal cvar's that you use for LAN.
Don't forget that mp_authicons/mp_servericons will NOT work on a LAN as you do not have real wonid's
Note: in the next patch of NS that will add VAC support you will need to add '-insecure' in the startup.

This don't work for NS 2.01c/b.
Server still searches/uses WON auth.
-insecure does not help too.

sv_nomaster 1 is useless.
Try -nomaster as a command line parameter instead. It will disable the MasterServer Communication.

It does not help that there is a line in the standard server.cfg files that resets sv_lan to 0. The result is no matter what you set in the command line, the server.cfg keeps re-writing it (unless you change the server.cfg).

Is there a way so I might practice on commander and check it out?
Without having an alien on the other team, you cant place nothing or do nothing unless you have an opponent.
Is there a command for this?

Join the team you want to be on then type:
"sv_cheats 1" to turn cheats on
"bigdig" builds quickly and automatically when you place a structure.
"givepoints" gives you a certain amount of res.

the server.cfg is only for HLDS-dedicated server, for ingame host you need to edit the listenserver.cfg and put the things there.
