Ok, I understand that you may find it fun to go shoot everything, but hear me out. I'm not asking you to not go solo, but try this. Tell your commander to get motion tracking ASAP, he should do this anyways. Then tell him that you are going to sneak into the hive and proceed to do as much damage as possible, or go knife defense chambers. Just play "ninja", be sneaky, with my experience as an alien everyone immediately heads to a hive when its under attack, imagine if out of no where, they hear "our hive is under attack", only to rush in there and find no one, or find one person got in. That helps your team out alot, it throws the alien team completely off beat, and think if you can kill the hive. If your going to rambo, play smart, and remember killing an alien doesnt help at all, but buying time and putting good alien resources to waste is your best ally. Doing this will not only gain the respect of your allies, but it will make you a great player.

*I've written this after playing a map where I played "ninja" , I died once, and killed 2 hives with a jetpack and a welder. I let the commander know where i was and what i was doing at all times. I was surprised that the whole time I was parasited too. I'd like to think that I won us the game, but that's a pretty abstract thought because no marine can win the game without the support of his team*

I think it's appropriate to learn when to rambo, and when not to.

Rambo early game when base needs building = bad... very very bad
Rambo early mid when you're exploring = good
Rambo on undefended hive = excellent

rambo other times.... check to see if your straight jacket's on.
Mindmeldme
Ah rambos....there to distract the aliens.....from me.

It amuses me greatly how aliens rarely bother defending the hive very well...
I have lost count of how many times I just run in with my lmg and shoot the hive, killing it after only 5-6 clips.
Never underestimate the power of a single marine, or even two... One time, the skulk rush on our base killed our CC+ports, and throwing caution to the wind, me and a buddy ran to the hive and slammed it down with a combined 4 clips lmg, and 3 clips pistol. From there, we had to dodge skulks until they died... smile.gif He had 1 clip of pistol left, and I had my knife, but I survived! One person going after the hive is great for keeping the aliens on the defensive.

Though a Rambo is also a player that randomly dies and runs around, by Rambo, one usually means a solo player, low on teamwork, but an excellent shot. It means that to me at least. Anyways, though I don't SEARCH for Rambo's, coming across one is excellent in 5+ team. I cannot count the amount of times a Rambo has been able to ninja siege a hive, or use JP to take them out. I got **obscenity** at this one guy for asking so early, but I dropped him a Welder/JP anyways, and next thing I know, 2 hives are welded to death by this crazy nut. Needless to say, I learned to trust, hehe.

I think I'm prejudice against rambo's so much cuz I suck at it myself, lol.

Honestly, most gorges will NOT defend a hive at first for 2 reasons, mainly:

i.)They expect their team to help them keep the hive alive
ii.)Can't afford the RP to build the OC and DC.

Meself, I just cap 3 RT and build a hive, most times without a jerkoff screaming for a DC *cof cof*CiviC*cof cof*

Really, will that extra bit of armor help yer skulk live that much longer?

I think killing gorges is worth it, and if I see theres no chance of me putting a couple clips into a hive anytime soon i'll blow my cover to kill a gorge. I rarely let gorges live if I see them. They'd have to be behind a wall of lame or something.

Yes.
Skulks are eaten by marines if they do not have carapace.
Personally, I can take out 3 skulks rushing all at once in a medium-small corridor.
Lmg kills two and wounds the third, and pistol finishes.
If they have carapace however, I find it hard to kill even one sometimes...
Pege
YES! I don't understand where gorges get the illusion that carapace doesn't help, because it's TOTALLY wrong. Nothing is more idiot than a gorge that builds lots of OCs but no DCs at the beginning. I'd even go as far to say that getting DCs at the beginning is even more important than building a second hive. Trough my own testing, I've noticed that skulks are total cannon fodder (even good ones) without carapace.

Ah HAH! The solution to the 2nd HIVE RUSH! WOOO ... Send 1-2 marines into their hive and just deal as much damage. Gorges have to divert their resources or risk losing the other hive in order to build another! Yay!

Rambos are bad when u give them a HMG and HA and they think they can take on the whole kharra race.

I think rambos that listen are good, and have the skill to back their talk smile.gif haha

and rambos that will take the time to weld a teammate or hlep base when needed. Rambos that ignore everything are not good : /

i once walked around alone.. can't remember why, but i found a hive and i had a jetpack.. not welder thou sad.gif
but i found the hive and went up on it and started to knife it since i almost didn't have any ammo left + i only had a lmg wich doens't do much damage...after a while a fade came and started to shoot at me.. he didn't hit me most of the time, but after a while i got a heatlh under 50% so i stared to fly away from him asking for health... can't remember the name of the hive, but it's a big one with some pipes in it and you can climb up on a ladder as marine to get to a balkony thingie...
think it's the map with the small hive that has water in it with a hole in the water...

anyway.. i had been asking for health from the first hit, but the comm never game me any and the jetpack was almost out so i landed to refill it and then a skulk came and took me out...

when i respawned some said that i did a nice job and so.. including the comm...
and i said thank's.. but if i would have got some health i would have taken it out.. then it was quit.. atleast from the comm..

don't know if it was becaus he didn't care or that he didn't got the message, caus i have been in more situations where the comm haven't heard my yell for health.... that might be a bugg.

anyone else experienced that?? i mean with the bugg

Did you use the command menu or give location? If not, it's your own fault. If so, then it's likely that the com had other, more important (to his point of view) things to do, can couldn't devote the time needed to flick over to you and drop medpacks on you. Plus dropping medpacks on a moving target is very hard.

i used booth.. first i used the command menu, then i started to write.. then use the command menu again.
getting a hive down is pretty good since only 1 hive = no fades... and if they have 3 2 hives = no onos.

the first times i asked for medpacks i was standing ontop of the hive and when i got below 50.. think i had like 30 in health or so i started to fly around... landing sometimes so that the fade wouldn't kill me..

+ as i said in another thread, you can drop medpacks on the floor... and the if they don't see it or hear it you can always write and say that it's there

Rambos in HA aren't much good I think, HA is just too slow... better to have a jetpack.

JP + Wealder is definatly the 'rambo weap of choise', just because most aliens aren't capable of killing a marine with a jp who's sitting on top of the hive wealding it.

BUT, solo rushing a hive WITHOUT JP is stupid.
If you're in position that you can unload one clip into a hive the com should give you a phase gate, get EVERYONE else to stop what they're doing and sit next to a gate, the second the gate goes up you rush in blow the hive away. This is THE cheap way to kill hives.

AND with 5+ people in the area you should be able to secure it aswell.. Free secured hive, -80 res to the aliens possibly one secure res point to the marines.. ALLl good.

Basically, in the time you could unload a clip into a hive (making a huge 'our hive is under attack' alert) you MIGHT get up a phase gate which if up will allow you to take down the hive and possibly secure that hive.

ive killed a hive with a buddy w/o jetpacks. But its not nesecarily stupid doing it solo. It makes the gorge have to come back and build chambers (it's rare for them to ignore it). Let's say 2 defense chambers and 2 offense. (2 entrances to a hive), And thats being very conservative, 48 resources. Lets say they double the defense, 2 ocs on each side with 2 defs. 96 resources, thats a hive in itself. And all you need to do is have one player rush the hive over and over again.
