A few days ago I was playing alien on eclipse? (the one with the horsehoe and triad gen) We were skulking away their towers and whatnot when we came across one outpost we couldn't destroy. Somehow the marines put a turret factory on top of a tower. Turrets on all sides made it impossible to get a blind spot on the factory. They did this 2 of the other hives pretty quickly and so we had no way to take them out as skulks and lost.

I thought they weren't supposed to be able to stack buildings?

You aren't supposed to be able to put buildings half way into walls, or on top of players either. And aliens sure can stack. It's just a matter of understanding what the hitboxes actually look like.
Still, a resource with a tfact on top of it prolly wouldn't work (cuz it couldn't move) if this were realistic. Even funnier still, a skulk could probably slam into it and send it rolling down the hallway, and out of turret powering range

Yeah, this is basically an exploit Heathen. We aliens have one too, in the fact that we can stack towers to make walls of lame. Both in realistic terms are impossible/impractical and should be removed, imho.

should be as easy to take out as most tfacs, just a little longer
1) circle strafe and destroy one turr
2) chomp on rez node, have the rez machine block other turret fire
3) back out FAST
4) chomp on tfac

Aliens aren't realistic. How would you know if it's realistic or not to stack towers.

Was there a blind spot on top of the tfac?

I would agree with you, Domestic, but that's subjective. Many, many, many people could argue with you and say that life similar to the Kharaa exists out there. (Not I, but I'm sure there are many UFO-philes out there who would.
)
Second, at least from what I've read of the back story, the towers are composed of the same nanomachine-like bacteria the aliens have all over their hive and hive walls. Meaning those gorges might be able to "sculpt" a larger or taller tower from this stuff, but I doubt he would be able to make one totem-style.
This too, is subjective.
My point about the towers, however, did not relate to the Kharaa. It was the marines. If you notice the RP is like a large, mechanical spider with a central collection unit that sucks up the resource "goo" and adds it to the resource pool. You'll also notice its large, metallic "legs" move as if they were hydraulic or mechanized. If you were to place a large turret factory (which might weigh, oh, 500 pounds up to about half a ton) on top of this structure, you can see how it would effect performance. It might just crush the resource machine entirely. So, in that respect, yes, it is unrealistic.

It doesn't matter if anything is realistic or not or even if it makes sense. It's up to the game developers what they want in there. I was under the impression that marine structures were not supposed to be able to be stacked.

The kharaa building on top of things actually helps make up for there slower firing by giving them ability to concentrate on one area a bit more. The turret factory on top of turrets however shouldnt be possible due to you usually being unable to place any marine building on top of another. However im sure theres some little trick out there to doing it

1) Hit the TF with lurk from a vent or the safest entrance you can, at the first sign of danger flee. (several lurks for rapid take down)
2) Take several skulks and hit the turrets.
3) Take a gorge and siege the turret factory with offence towers. Build one tower hide behind it building it heal it, get res for 2nd tower build it while breaking off to heal the 1st tower now you have 2 towers, build a 3rd tower breaking off to heal the other towers continue till all enemy turrets are dead.
Fastest method will however be:
Hit turrets with carapice skulk, have gorge sieging AT THE SAME TIME. When the skulks are hurt they run behind offence towers for a heal as soon as the turret factory falls you have a pre-defended res point to build on.
Incedently you can put a turret on top of the turret factory, I imagine you can also put one on top of the res tower.... I think its not so much the marines cannot stack, its more they don't..
I however will be in future... If the devs let it work and don't say its a bug, its a feature.

You can't siege them when they have siege cannons.

The TF is big enough that bits of it overhang the RT. So, just duck under the RT, and AIM at that part of the TF you can see sticking out. Or jump up on top and crouch down beside the TF. *shrug* Usual tactics to deal with the turrets, eat one or just duck in and out.
A TF on top of a RT is not invulnerable, and normally blocks fire from three sides. I've had no more trouble killing stacked TF, than I do killing floor mounted TFs, and often less due to the amount of fire they block.
So, please, stack those TFs.

Yeah, I've never seen an advantage to stacking the TF on a res tower. I generally put them very close together (easier to defend both together that way) but I don't intentially stack anything. I just don't see the advantage as a marine.
