I've seen a couple threads talk about it, but no one has actually confirmed whats causing it, and if its a bug.

I can see that maybe some admins think its **obscenity** and have some switch to turn it off, then I would just think they are **obscenity**, and get a new server asap.

But if its a bug, I haven't heard any official word on it. Just people saying "sometimes motion tracking doesn't work" into a dark space of nothingness.


I play on 1 server and it works, then a different server, put observe in exactly the same spot, and everything, and no workie. I've also had the upgrade cancel itself, and not give back the RS, then require it to to be upgraded again, only to have it not work.

What I'm mostly concerned about is things like clan matches. If this happened in a match, it could totally **obscenity** over a team. Big waste of resources for weird upgrade canceling bugs, huge disadvantage and change in strategy if MT doesn't work. What do you tell them? "Sorry can we stop the match and restart the server? I know we've been playing for 20 minutes, but our motion tracking isn't working."

for me it worked only once... it's a good thing... for the marines

This is bug, it has happend to me on servers where the admin was playing and confirmed that they had done nothing to disable motion tracking.

If you are going to disable motion tracking on your server, you better mention it in the server title or MOTD, and make it so you can't buy it. Spending 40 resources for no payoff sucks, on top of the fact that you are ruining the game balance on your server and giving the aliens the advantage. You should consider removing on of their upgrades if you are going to disable a marine upgrade.

Some of the players on my server asked me if I turned off motion tracking. Nope I didn't, I wasn't even aware that there was a way to do that. The fact that they complained about it tells me that something isn't working right.

Perhaps you need to walk up to the observatory and "build" it again after the upgrade bar completes? The reason I suggest this is because there is a simmilar bug with upgrading Turret Factories. The weird part is, it only seems to happen on certian maps... well, anyway, perhaps both of these issues point to a bug that affects all upgradable structures? Or affects a semi-random type of structure?

You people who have seen the Motion-Tracking bug in action... was the commander able to upgrade other structures, or not?

It is a Linux-only bug.

yes, finally.......was figuring it was a linux bug.....this is as good as a confirmation for me!
