Theres a tactic that I've recently started using and I wonder if anyone else uses it too.
Basically, I save myself from upgrading, and upgrade when I am too far from the hive or defence chamber to recover my HP and shield, because you'll notice that after you finish your upgrade, you have automatically healed to 100% Health and your shield will be up again too. The only problem is with the Carapace upgrade because you don't get full shield until you recover next to a hive or defence chamber.
This comes in handy when you have the option of upgrades that you know aren't that useful to you. I think this is the reason that most people are gestating on the front line of an attack where there aren't any defence chambers. They attack and kill, lose HP, gestate and immediately regain HP plus upgrade.

Yes, they removed that in 1.03 wich is a good thing IMO.

Yea, it's removed. Note that it preserves the H/A
percentages, not the actual values. It was a very nice trick before, but no more

Yeah, now that they removed it, you should think about when to evolve. Like if you come back to your hive as a skulk with 10 hp, and you plan to evolve to Fade, let's say, you would get full HP as a fade faster if you had the hive/DC heal you to full health THEN evolve to Fade, rather than evolve to fade and heal from there, because you'd be at what, 1/7 HPs of fade?
Just my thoughts.
