Full Version: Speedhack-esque Glitch

So I thought I should jump on the NS bandwagon again, so I loaded up a fresh install which I got from Fileshack.com.

Jumped into a game and joined the Marines (See the world they said.) As soon as I took one step I basically teleported to the other side of the Marine Spawn.
Several of my teammates saw it happen and began to accuse me of speedhacking, and I was completely bewildered. Then I shot my gun and emptied the magazine in about .1 seconds. I've stopped playing until I can resolve this because I do not want to get banned.

I swear on my mothers eyes I have no hacks, nor ever have I. I'm downloading a new install from a different site to see if that fixes the problem. Maybe Fileshack is bundling their installs with hacks now?

Any assistance/input would be a god send.

Oh, first post also.

i would set up a local server to see if you can replicate it. was that the only time it happened? has it ever not happened?
Cyjoki
As I said, I just started playing again.

When I first joined, right after the install it did this. Then I changed my resolution from 1600x1200 to 1360x1024, because this helps with graphics problems in HL2 for me and it fixed it.

I logged off and then came back a few hours later to the same server and it started happening again, and the game was still on the resolution it had worked perfectly on before.

I'm re-installing right now, so maybe that will help. I completely purged all my NS files.

EDIT -

Same problem still occuring. I played on three VAC-secured servers and nothing happened, so I assume there isn't actually a speedhack lurking somewhere. Or at least I hope to god theres not.

I created a server and I have the same problem. I will make a demo momentarily and upload it if requested.

Whats the most effective way to get rid of all of NS and its files? I can't find an uninstaller.

i would also try a different server. do whatever you can to change the situation to get more information about what it is.

- Does it happen with all weapons? (Does it happen with Alien attacks, or only with some alien attacks? E.g. it might only happen with projectile weapons like Gorge Spit )

- Does it happen on all resolutions? (try some resolutions from 1024x760 and below)

- Does it happen if you cap your FPS to something lower than the maximum HL can support? (e.g. type "cl_showfps 1", "fps_max 40" or maybe "cl_fps_max 40")

- Give us some information on your system specs (operating system, gfx card, RAM, CPU)

- What button do you use for "+attack"?

- How stable is your internet connection? Are you running any download programs in the background (including Steam update, anti-virus update)

- Are you running any other intensive programs in the background (e.g. search programs, virus-checking programs)

P.S. Don't forget to return your fps_max to 60 or 70 after you finish checking that.

It's a dual core thing.

Try sticking the NS process on a single core

(Ctrl+alt+delete, process, right click HL.exe, set affintiy)

- Happens with all weapons. Knife, Spit, Bite, you name it.

- A quick, but non-permanent fix is to lower my resolution and join a server. As soon as I restart the game though the glitch happens on that resolution as well.

- FPS Cap doesn't help.

- I'm running Windows XP Pro, ATI Radeon x700, 1gb of ram, AMD Dual Core x64 4400+.

- '+attack' is bound to Mouse 1

- My internet is perfectly stable, nothing running in the background.

- No other background programs running except necessary ones.

I'm gunna try Sherpa's fix.
Cyjoki
Sherpa's advice fixed it.

Crtl + Alt + Delete and right click on hl.exe > Set Affinity > Uncheck one processor box.

Game runs flawlessly now.

Maybe this should be added to common problems because I've heard of alot of other people getting this bug.
Thansal
that is really strange. HL fully understands how to utilize dual cores from what I understood. Maybe it is an AMD thing.

However, as alt tabing each time is a PITA, there is a fix from MS for XP that helps with dual core problems:

I found out about it when Playing Beyond Good and Evil, should probably help you out also.

thats odd, i have an amd dual core and have never had this problem.
