Ok, Stupid question. If I start playing around with scripts how likely am i to get stung by Steam VAC bans for hacking. I have seen people snagged for speed hacks on my clan servers and thought I would check. In particular jump and pistol scripts.

VAC checks for external programs. A script is just an advanced bind, which is used internally in NS.
That said, the obvious conclusion is: There is no chance.

now, if you were talking about playing around with CHEATS, then just make sure that VAC is not enabled on your server.

or even just run a listen server.

Thanks for the quick response. i did not mean cheats... i would expect them to be caught by VAC.

I didnt expect VAC to care about the binds but had several people ask for un-ban on my server that were regulars that were snagged by VAC during one of it's periodic updates. I'm going to assume that they were caught by error due to bugs in the update and go ahead with playing with scripts.


(btw the bans were reversed by VAC w/o too much trouble so the bug theory seems to hold water)

yea scripts are just multiple binds spit out in order, theres nothing cheating about them really. Hell, even my keyboard has a way i can build scripts into it

Tried a few out... didnt like any but the multi-shot pistol script. However, I DID find a few servers that wont let me play with scripts. kinda annoying really.

Most people don't understand how limited scripts are and think scripts are capable of doing things that cheats do (like aim for you). Most servers (at least in the US) seem to block scripts.

sad that I need to have 2 sets of cfg files. w/ and w/o scripts. ah well, it means that i will have to get even deaper into setting em up right.

The simple way of doing this is to have 2 config files (say, BS.cfg and noBS.cfg)
at the end of each, simply put in a line that binds a key you don't use (-?) to execute the other.

With mp_bs 1 you cannot use a key to execute a script.

EDIT: If you set your nobs.cfg to be able to execute your bs.cfg, then on servers that allow scripts you could easily turn them on with 1 button press, but not the other way around.

you want that reversed then.

Have your BS.cfg auto load, but give it the line to switch to noBS.cfg with a button. Whenever you join a server you give that key a tap and it will load your Scripts if BS is set to 0 and it will nto if it is set to 1, kinda simple

Or you can use a more advanced server browser (I Think ASE still works for this) and filter out any server with BS 1

meh. I just set up KP_Enter to exec clean.cfg which is a clean (no script) cfg. and F7-F11 to scripts for the variety of lifeforms. They all overwrite each other so I am set. Thanks for all the help guys.

BTW I wrote a paracite then bite script last night that works great. Time for the big time i guess.

exactly, thus you want your default to be ready for BS 1

So your BS 1 config file has a line that will ONLY work if you are on a BS 0 server.


if your nobs.cfg has a line to switch to bs.cfg, then it will not work when you join a BS server.

Not a big thing. Near as i can tell if the server doesnt allow scripts it just wont let you run em and puts up a message saying YOU CANT RUN SCRIPTS HERE type message. the rest of the cfg works fine just not the scripts.

That said having a key bind for joining a team that executes a .cfg file is easy. Just include the impulse for joining the either team in it and then all your setup binds too. Just dont forget to reset your basic attack key back to +attack in your clean .cfg if you change it. I currently use a pistol script for the marines that I need to take off when I go aliens for example.

We plays a 30 minutes CO_Faceoff battle in AMX modded server, and a Cheater is Comes up, and get the game wrong, alm0st all the players left, because this guy is use a cheat.

You can't just come on here and call someone a cheater without proof/serverlogs/demo's or something. Well technically you can, but firstly this is not the forum of that particular server and secondly its just not a good code of conduct imho. And I don't get what this has to do with anything in this OLD thread?

Just stating something as it was a very random comment on your part Meh the main subject of this OLD thread was if scripts are cheats or not, well they're not and VAC will not ban you for it...
