I quit playing a few months ago, now I want to start up again. Whenever I try to load NS however, it just shows me the Ns screen with the skulks and marines, then flashes black then back to the desktop. I've tried reinstalling Steam and NS, but nothing has worked so far. Can anyone help me out with this?

Sounds like video card problem possibly. See if you can load it up in software mode and whether it will give the same error.

You might have a messed up userconfig file. Delete it and see what happens.

Deleted it, but the same thing still happens.

Also, can anyone tell me how I can run it in software mode?

To elimate a sound card issue, I wanna say that there's a "-nosound" command, but I can't be too sure. Check the steam support for an answer on that one.
