OK, so, most people have half life one and use that as a base for NS...but I only have cs 1.6...According to this site I don't need half life, only cs. But when I install NS it doesn't show up in the Games directory on steam. I'm pretty sure that means I'm just installing to the wrong windows directory, so I assume all i need is the correct one, can anybody help me withe this?

I'm pretty sure that you need Half-Life 1. Where on the site did you see that you could us CS?

umm, there is a way to do it (supposedly). Unfortunately I don't have a link to the thread describing how to do it (it has something to do with installing CS 2 times and renaming one of the installs or something silly like that).
Good luck.
If you poke around in this forum you should find one of the threads referencing it. Can't search as CS is to short

Adding a copy of CS to Steam should give you HL. Then install HL and run it once. Try reinstalling NS again, it should be able to find HL.

I'm pretty sure any of the HL games can be added to steam now to get all the HL games. I believe I had a friend do that with CS.

I did that withe my old steam account, but my new one I only purchased cs, and It says I have to pay to install HL...thus my issue getting it to run off cs.

yah, if you purchased CS through Steam you get CS and that is it.
I am also willing to bet that if you buy a boxed copy of CS now that is all you will get.
again, poke around on this forum, there is a way of doing it (supposedly, I have never tested it my self)

I think with the boxed copies when you enter in a key it would give you a HL key so you got the whole set.

Well, according to myself:
http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index....showtopic=89619Counter-Strike Retail should provide you with Half-Life when you register it through steam.

Yeah, you'd think that wouldn't you. It's not like that anymore though, I would have to buy HL seperately. I might tomorrow but I'm not sure... I'm gonna work on it some more right now after reading your instructions, maybe I did something wrong:P. I hope so.

Well, it s quite possible that they changed the way retail registration works. That guide is based on information, that were accurate about 2 years ago
