Full Version: dropping equipment in quantities

i had an idea while playing earlier. i was thinking it would be useful and convenient for the commander in his interface to have the option when dropping equipment/weapons to have either the default "click and drop" or can choose a separate option where they are givin a prompt for how many of whatever piece of equipment dropped. for example if the marine wants to send 5 of his marines out in a squad to an objective and wishes to drop them all shotguns, the marine can choose the quantity option, input 5, and 5 shotguns will drop on the click instead of just one.

if the team didnt have enough res to cover the total cost, then it could drop the maximum number of the equipment possible with the alloted res.

also would be a cool suggestion for ns2 if i may say so myself

so.. feedback?

no replies? NO ONE has anything to say?

even if you dont like the idea i dont mind constructive critisism.. hell, tell me it sucks if you think so. it was just an idea that randomly came to me

maybe you could get a 5% discount if you buy stuff in a bundle

buy one get one free

its all got to go pholks. 3 hmgs, 20 res. 4 GLs, 25 resources. IM CRAZZYY.

oh wait, its really easy to just drop a gun 4 times and this is a bad idea.

i see

i was thinking about this as i was commanding one game and near the end, when our team had a lot of res, and i was dropping a pile of each of the weapons

instead of spamming the S key 25 times, it would be faster to just click the quantity option and type 25.

anyway i didnt think it was a bad idea.. although i dont realy see it being too beneficial unless you are dropping a fairly large quantity of whatever piece of equipment

costco for the win!

i mean implementing this wouldnt really hurt anything and it would be nice but its really not needed. it would just be a waste of developer resources.

There's basically 3 types of scenarios this could impact:

Scenario 1: You want to drop ONE shotgun. You click the drop button. Nothing happens. Doh! You forgot you need to put in the quantity first. You type in "1" and then drop your 1 shotty. Verdict: Better off without the feature.

Scenario 2: You want to drop FIVE shotguns. You can click "shotty", type "5" and click "drop" or you can spam "s" and click 5 times, in about the same time. Not much difference in timing, but you do lose the ability to put them in specific places in your base. Verdict: Only helps if you don't know how to use comm hotkeys

Scenario 3: You want to drop TWENTY FIVE shotguns.
Verdict: You're crazy. You should never drop 25 shotguns at once. If you are seriously trying to win this game, your team should eject you for saving up 250 res. If you werent taking the game seriously and you're just playing around, then who cares how many shotties you have anyway? And who cares whether it takes 3 or 4 seconds to spam all those shotties?

Well for NS yes, this would require major chages in the GUI control and a whole new line of debugging for the patch. I'd be much easier to add it in when starting from scratch. (ie:NS2)

This was one of those ideas I was kind neutral to but as I kept reading I saw this:

In light of those well put hypothetical applications of this idea in action, I can't support any reasoning behind the idea.

i already stated that there would be the normal click and drop option, and then an additional option to drop X quantity. and if your team has the res for it, then who cares... suppose the marines have basically control over most of the res nodes and have an over-abundance of res. so you want to drop 25 weapons so you can go about doing more important things than dropping a weapon every time someone dies-- they will be there on the ground for people to pick up themselves without having to bother you while you are busy.

ok so the idea sucks, not a big deal. it was just an idea i had, i figured you guys wouldnt go for it but i was just curious.
