Hello. im a new member but thats due to browser difficulties, im playing ns for almost a year.

i wanted to post 2 ideas i had that could make the game better imo.

first: i comm alot and sometimes same soldier asks for ammo twice. now the little hud sign of "ammo request" on the left has a little 2 on it, meaning theres 2 ammo requests. to make it dissapear i need to click on it 2 times, and both clicks will bring me to the same player. my idea is that if a player asks for ammo/med/order more then once, the requests shouldnt pile up but stay on 1. if 2 diffrent players ask for ammo- then theres 2 requests. it just feels annoying that i need to click the ammo request button for 3 times just to clean it up.

another thing is more of a question then its an idea: why when relocating comms beacon all the marines spawn in the marine start? wouldnt it be better if they spawned near the new cc? i dont know if its possible to do so, but if beaconing marines would spawn next to the cc it would help alot in relocations.

agree with request it might be really annoying especially for ppl who command most of the time tounge.gif dunnno about beacon.

The first I agree with.

The second can't be done(easily), due to engine limitations. Players can only spawn on structures(which have all sorts of safety checks) or at points preset by the mapper. Since you have to spawn an entire team at once, much like at the beginning of a round, the preset points are the only option.

Plus ,you can think of it as being more in-line with the theme of NS. "Beacon" is a distress call ("distress beacon") for immediate emergency reinforcements, which means these reinforcements are not being transported via IPs like regular reinforcements, but rather through the same way the initial team got there: via the station's/ship's main accessible port a.k.a "marine start". It makes more sense this way anyways.

And you could stick a CC outside the hive and beacon rush it. tounge.gif

That would be quite funny, would be easier to pull off than an IP rush and about as effective as an IP rush too biggrin-fix.gif

On Topic:
I like the first idea, I thought of it before but I'm not sure if it's possible. The only way I can see it actually being possible is if there is a maximum amount of calls a person can make per second.

QUOTE
Example:
A marine calls for ammo on time x,
He must wait x + 0.05 (or 5 seconds) to be able to call for another one,
All other ammo requests sent in this time period are ignored by the command console.

The soldier may call for other things like med packs or orders (arguably, he wouldn't really need to call for orders anyway) during that waiting period.

The second idea is also a controversial thing (I think). When you relocate, you generally relocate for the advantage the location brings you (resources, proximity of hives, chock point) that the regular staring base doesn't provide. As so, you sort of give up beacon for that advantage, balancing the two out.

You could also consider Renegade's reasoning, except mine is more nerdy nerd-fix.gif (and so is the whole post really tounge.gif)

i like the ammo/med pack idea; it is annoying when you are busy trying to get a group of marines to help set up a firebase outside of a hive, and one lone marine ###### who is out on his own gets bitten by a skulk somewhere on the map and spams for medpacks while you are clearly busy with something more important.

as for the beacon idea, well i have always wished it would beacon the marines to the obs that the com used to beacon....

no... i ment the active cc, the one with the comm in it. if you can build a cc and get a comm in it inside a hive,
you can siege it.

not really.

how hard is it to build a cc near the hive and then get the comm to jump out and another marine near the cc to jump into that one.

lol ya sometimes when i comm on pubs i have players that just spam for med calls, to mess up my med call queue. its REALLY annoying.

if you get rid of multiple medpack calls then how will I passive-aggressively get back at bad commanders? I need something to do while hiding in the corner hoping a skulk doesnt parasite me to death, why not spam mwheelup and give the comm 200 medrequests?

but you only need to worry if you're bad at commanding!

besides, its not like there arent 10 better things i could use mwheelup for biggrin-fix.gif

the situation described had nothing to do with being a good or bad com

the point is that it is annoying when you are trying ot give support to a group of marines that are doing something important and one stubborn jackass is interfering with your ability to support the higher priority

are the game developers even look at ideas in the forum? are they even seeing it?
any chance to get a reply from tham?

They look, but they're not going to respond to each and every suggestion.
Usually other people in the community bring up any relevant points anyway. Like now.
