Simply put, it's boring chomping on marine RTs.

New marine RT: 4000 HP, 10 resources to build, takes 75% of the current time to build.
New alien RT: 10 res to build, 50% increase in build time. +500 hp (to 3000)

Looking at it from both competitive and pub play, somebody's going to get the shaft chomping down on marine RTs. It's boring, takes no skill, and it's just goddamn irritating. So why not make them cheaper, easier to take down, and faster to rebuild?

Conversely, the 6v6 marine strat is to drop a shotgun at the beginning and go node hunting right away. With early game skulk weakness, it's fairly common (I would say more than half the time) that an evenly matched marine team can SG down one of the 2 RTs dropped outside of the starting hive, a substantial setback for aliens. Not to mention the countless 24+ servers in which the early game it's impossible for any number of skulks to dislodge a 6 marine node hunting team.

This is, ultimately, a boost for the alien team. But I think it's justified considering the fragile alien RT and being even harder to replace. Whereas the equilibrium for the marine RT stays more or less the same.

you wouldnt be able to make these changes without rebalancing a plethora of other things. maybe in NS2.

Sorry, but no thank you. It may seem boring to you but if you've spent the time to built and secured that area it should take time and effort to take it down too. Just think of it in terms of command points, only in this case the command points are areas you build a structure which give your critical secondary objective stuff we just call "resources".

I would however be down with seeing different types of resources in NS2.
(ie: for marines it could be Amperes & Nanites Qty. and for aliens it could be Water & Infestation Mass)

But to this idea I must say I don't really care for it at all. Sorry.

I fully agree that eating rts is boring and a like your idea, but unfortunately I also have to agree with tours that you can't change these things that easy without harming other balance aspects of the game.

I don't know if playing around with numbers is going to fix the rt chewing. After all lower rt hp means that the rt goes down quicker and so more rts go down. That leads to more capping and so aliens have to take out the rt once again. Generally, marines would have to play more passive and cover res more, which isn't really all that the game is supposed to be. The res must flow, there isn't a way to change the mechanics only by changing rt hp, I think. Of course it would be good that it wouldn't take so long continuos periods of time to get one rt down, but I don't think its worth the rebalancing it would take.

I'd rather encourage all skulks to take out the res. That way there wouldn't be all that much res biting for each skulk.

6v6 is quite balanced now. Its ok that marines have the opportunity to take out the rt. Once again, the hp change isn't going to change the fact that marines need to have the pressure to keep their own cappers alive and to buy some more time. If no res is taken out the fades will kick in before 4 minutes and hive goes up 3 minutes later. I'm more worried about the obligatory rt wasting routine than the fact that marines can take the res out.

I don't know about the larger servers. Low rt cost wouldn't probably hurt there. Generally 6 marines packed together ask for a sporelerk though. I'd rather not be the comm who has to med them without a huge res flow. Medding even 3 marines in spore for too long hurts res quite bad sometimes, not to speak of 6 while you've got other things to do too.

i think if alien rts would cost only 10 res, i could see 2 fast fades + 1 rt fade, ofc if we'll still have same amount of res at the start then the game would be unbalanced cause i see fades domination on the field, rocking marines from left to the right but if we lower the amount of res at the start then fades would come latter and it would be too easy for marines to lock down the hives since every alien life form would be latter than it used to be, for now i think game is balanced enought and we shouldn't add big changes.
