It is now Night 1, no posting!
Petco was bored. Really bored.
"We're in the middle of no where," Petco thought. "The sentry runes will pick up anything living or dead or worse within 1000 feet. Yet they still insist I patrol here."
He conjured a trio of fireballs and launched them at the wall, being sure to disperse them before they hit. Petco had learned quite well after his last "incident", in which he took out an entire stone column. Not that it mattered; the columns were strictly for decoration. The "people" who had built the portal complex ages ago had no need for masonry. But Petco had, of course, been told to remake the column anyway.
"I assure you, whoever would have need of this place could care less," Petco had told im_lost."We're guardians, not janitors."
"So should we blow up all the columns then?" said im_lost
"Well no," responded Petco. "But the portal will function just fine without this column."
"No one even knows if the portal works anymore."
"Well obviously. I could test it for you if you're interested"
"And the demons would be over it in seconds. Just rebuild the column."
. . .
"Hey Thansal, could you go with me to get the book on higher order detection spells," said Theslan. Nobody was allowed to be in the library alone, for security and to protect the reader from trying to absorb too much.
"Why?" responded Thansal
"I sensed something..odd earlier," said Theslan
"Again? We're very close to a portal that uses energies inconceivable to any of us...with the possible exception of Freak83. Of course it's going to feel strange."
"This was different! We're all required to investigate anything suspicious, so come on!"
Thansal sighed and agreed to go with him to the library. This was defiantly not the first time Theslan had wanted to use that book, and the last time, Theslan found out what was being made for breakfast before the cookmage, Chocolate did.
. . .
Emp_Demon, Eternaly_Lost, Xentor, and Nightstalker were eating in the makeshift dining room. Well, truth be told they were done eating, but they stayed because it provided one of the few times each day where a large group of them was together. They amused themselves by playing lightning bolt ping-pong, which is just as dangerous as it sounds...to regular people. Everybody who had been chosen to guard the portal was powerful enough to level a town in an hour, a city in a day.(this does not mean that the city is 12 times the size of the town, rather, it means that the mage in question would, instead of using conventional methods like fireballs and chain lightning, spend the day channeling a spell to quite simply, level the city.) The lightning bolts could be deflected effortlessly.
"You aren't taking this job very seriously," said Ana.
"I will take it seriously when it becomes serious," replied Xentor, "Ow!" he said. Emp_Demon and Nightstalkerhad chosen to double attack Xentor as he was talking.
Ana shrugged and sat down on the other side of the room.
Rule stuff-
Number of wolves:3
Rules: Standard with the following changes
New human special role: Priest
The priest can resurrect one(1) dead person(human or otherwise) during
the night or day. The person will come back to life whenever said day
or night ends. If the priest dies before using his resurrect, it will
be gone forever. Because of the possibility that you will return to the game,
talking to other people, dead or otherwise, is forbidden after you are dead,
Wolf buffs:
1.If the seer seers a wolf, the wolves will be told which one of them
was seered. They will receive this information when the seer gets his
response from the host. I'm hoping this will cause some more
interesting strategies to unfold since the wolves will have been
warned that someone out there knows about them.
2.The wolves will be told if the psychic dies. For use in faking a
psychic or seer(or just feeling comfy).
3.The guardian can't protect the same person 2 days in a row. He can
protect them every other day.

Welcome to TWG XII! Remember that nothing will happen the first night, you don't need to send me any PMs. I am sending out the role PMs now. This will include PMs for humans.
The roles were picked by random.org's sequence maker. I wrote the story before selecting the roles. Trying to guess the roles from the story is pointless.
Night 1 will end Friday, April 6th at 9 PM EST.

It is now Day 1, post away!
"I know how to use a detection spell!" yelled Theslan "It's clear that something is wrong. I'm sensing strange energies, and they aren't coming from the portal."
"Then where would they be coming from?" replied Freak83, with a very skeptical look on his face. "Are you trying to tell me you, using a very potent detection spell, can't figure out where some "strange energies" are coming from?"
"Well...yes," said Theslan (queue spooky music) "It seems to be coming from...everywhere."
"Uhhuh. I will investigate this. You probably simply made a mistake with the spell. It's very complicated, so that is not unlikely. You should go now." Freak83 waved Theslan away.
Theslan turned and began walking out of Freak83's office-which was located directly across from the portal room.
"One more thing," said Freak83. "Please don't mention this to anybody. I really don't need people getting worried over what is probably nothing."
...
Theslan stopped to examine the portal. Its base was a fairly simple obsidian structure, mainly disk shaped with a sloping rise at the edges. Rising up from it was a goldish tripod, above which sat a strange crystal with a highly irregular shape. It was dim, and yet Theslan could feel its power. Maybe it was the portal that had caused his strange feelings, but they had never happend before.
The portal itself was quite small, maybe the size of a dinner table. Rather than walk through it or enter the structure itself, a powerful mage could focus it and teleport himself through it, provided he was in the same room(at least that is assumed, nobody has actually tried using the portal at a distance.) Likewise, things leaving the portal would appear throughout the room.
...
Some hours later, im_lost approached Eternaly_Lost and asked when the last time he had seen Freak83 was.
"Hmm..I believe I saw him at dinner a few days ago. Why?" said Eternaly_Lost.
"I was supposed to meet with him to discuss possible threats to this complex. He isn't in his office."
"Maybe he got lost. This place is fairly large you know."
im_lost sighed.

Sigh
Day one.
Day one always sucks.
I just realized, did NOTHING happen night one? Including no Seer?
If so then we have NOTHING to go on. Unfortunately I am not going to be around much this weekend.
So.
I am going to Random.org today. Why? you ask?
Well here are a few reasons:
1) If nothing happened this night, we have nothing to go on. Anyone coming forward as a roll is either an idiot or a stupid wolf.
2) Not going to be around, so I want to keep a phantom off me (I will check in at points, so if there are some pretty good arguments I will possibly switch my vote (or if people are bandwagoning, I might switch my vote off of that person).
so, my vote falls on:
1: EMP Demon
heh, the joy of actual random picks, I rolled 5 times, just for the heck of it 1, 11, 1, 11, 7; you will almost never see a run like that in a human generated list of "random" numbers, but if you use something that actualy is rather random it is much more likely.
Petco
Apr 7 2007, 04:36 PM
I'll randomly vote for Theslan.
Also another interesting thing to note is that if Theslan and Thansal both had the same avatars and signatures, we'll all have a hard time telling them apart(obviously), even they will.
Though here are ways to make the process easier - Look at the last letter of their name.

I personally think the game from TWG X was a good one (Yes, I know it really decided the game for humans, but I personally think that was down to VERY skilled humans, not any sort of inherent favoring of them, honestly th wolves were favored in that game, but the humans did great).

You can't really shorten a day after you've specified a start time for it. People might have something clever* planned for the end of the day, and then they wouldn't get to pull it off.
*By clever, I mean something that seems clever to them but will actually get them killed the next day, if not that night. Besides, there's only 7 hours left in this day, and since the days and nights basically always start at the same time (give or take an hour), there's no use in ending the day early.

I asked this question in the pregame thread, and it didn't get an answer, so here it is again.
If the priest decides to resurrect someone, and the priest dies during that same period (getting wolfed when they pick someone at night, or getting lynched when they pick someone during the day), will their resurrection be successful?
Isamil
Apr 8 2007, 10:45 PM
Tricky question. I'm going to rule Yes, the resurrection will be successful, on account of A.Fairness to the priest and B.Wolves generally decide who they're killing late in the night.
The day ends in 2 hours, 15 minutes.

It is now Night 2, no posting!
Over the course of the day, im_lost realized that no one had seen Freak83 and initiated a search for him. It was of course, very strange. The runes made it so no one could leave the complex undetected, and while Freak83 was the only one who had the power to disable them, there was no reason for him to do so. Besides, he couldn't disable them without alerting the rest of the system. That was impossible. The most likely, although not very cheery explanation was that Freak83 was exploring the complex and fainted/died-which is of course, still very weird. The search continues....
...
Petco enters a room at the top of the portal complex to observe Thansal, Chocolate, and the_x5, who are all surrounding a small crystal, channeling deeply.
“How much longer?” said Petco, directed at Thansal.
“A minute,” he replied.
A minute later, the three finish. The crystal they were focusing on begins floating, and then starts to spin wildly.
“This will scan the entire complex for anything. If he's here-and there's no way for him to have left-we'll know where he is,” said the_x5.
The crystal slowed to a halt; Chocolate grabbed it and began focusing.
“Where is he?” said Petco.
“.....,” said Chocolate with a very shocked look on his face.
“What?” exclaimed Thansal.
Chocolate yelled,”“He isn't here...but there is a strong energy residue on the portal!”
...
Everyone gathered in the portal room. There was no visible change in the crystal; none of the mages sensed anything on it. But the powerful spell they had used doesn't lie.
“This is impossible!” yelled the_x5 as he ran up to the portal. “He couldn't activate this...could he?”
“It's incredibly dangerous,” said im_lost. “We must study this and not come to any rash conclusions.”
“True,” said the_x5. He laid his hands on the portal crystal and began channeling a spell of investigation...but he didn't get very far before an absurdly powerful beam of lightning and energy emitted from the portal tripod and violently shot the_x5 across the room before he could blink.
"More lengthy study..at a distance..would have shown that it was trapped," said im_lost with a blank look on his face.
Night 2 will end Monday, April 9th at 9 PM EST.
I need PMs from the wolves, the seer(if alive), and the guardian(if alive). The psychic(if alive) will be getting their PM shortly.

It is now Day 2, post away!
A somber feeling fell over everyone after the death of the_x5. It was quite clear what had happened-the_x5 had been murdered by the portal's trap. Some of the wizards found comfort in knowing that he had acted rashly by touching the portal. “It couldn't have happened to us,” they thought. But there was still the lingering suspicion that one of them would have been killed, and that the_x5 was there in their place.
The who was, unfortunately, too obvious. Freak83. He was the only person who had any chance of activating the portal, and his disappearance made it clear. How he did it was still unknown. While it was rumored that he knew how to activate the portal-he had, after all, devoted a great deal of time to studying it, how had it done it without anyone noticing? The portal was an immensely powerful object and would have undoubtedly required large amounts of energy to open. Yet, no one had sensed anything. Freak83 had somehow gotten to the portal room unnoticed-and the patrols certainly went there, activated it, teleported through, and the strangest thing, closed it. That he was able to remotely close the portal suggests that the mages understood it even less than they thought. And that raises the question-could the portal be remote opened? Apparently not, after all, had that been possible demons would have invaded and overrun the place long ago. And finally, how did Freak83 trap the portal with a spell powerful enough to instantly kill a powerful mage, and yet be completely undetected. This whole situation was very confusing.
The most difficult question of all was why. Why did Freak83 go through the portal, and why did he trap it with a spell that killed the first person to touch it. Was he running from something? There was nothing for him to run from. Perhaps he had some other motive. But what?
...
The mages had all gone to sleep after an intense debate. As usual, Chocolate woke early to go and prepare the day's breakfast. He knew that the power of food was not to be underestimated. They all needed something to cheer them up after this untimely death. Perhaps a cake. Cake was always good.
Chocolate entered the kitchen. He would start the cake-it would probably be finished by mid to end day. Making the cake consisted of conjuring up the ingredients(he had written the recipe down on the back of a fire spellbook) and mixing them in a bowl. He then conjured up a pocket of heat and placed the raw cake inside it. Despite the ability to level cities, no one has ever figured out how to quickly cook something and still make it taste good. The wonders of chemistry.
As Chocolate finished setting up the cake, a masked figure entered the kitchen-Chocolate didn't see him. That changed when the figure chucked a fireball volley at him, which Chocolate-being extremely well trained, mostly deflected. And so on.

Ok, so the 2 newbies are dead, that Kinda sucks... (for them, first game and the first 2 deaths)
So, some random thoughts:
1) Killing Chocolate really doesn't tell us much, I am curious as to WHY they would kill off a newbie instead of an experienced player like im_lost (who chocolate voted for), EMP, petco, or anyone else. My only thought is that they read into
This post of Chocolate's, and labeled him as a Roll (personally I would have tbh)
2) Should the Priest Rez Chocolate now? It makes sense for the priest to rez the first wolfing just to make sure that the Rez gets spent. The flipside is that the wolves have probably also thought of this and there is the CHANCE that they killed one of their own night one. I personally think the priest should spend the rez on chocolate right now, and here are my reasons:
A) with only 3 wolves, killing off one is a BIG gamble to take on the priest using his rez on the night one death (and unfortunately the psychic can not confirm this as they get their PM before the wolves kill if I am remembering correctly).
B) Only one of the 2 Deaths could be a Wolf at this point (no one is stupid enough to nock them selves down to 1 wolf on the hope of a priest rez).
C) The priest should thus rez either X5 or Chocolate, just to make sure the rez gets spent.
D) I think it is more likely that we killed a wolf Day 1, then the wolves sacrificed one of their own Night 2.
Thus Chocolate should get the Rez.
(Of course I could be a wolf trying to pull off the exact ploy I described, but that is the argument against everything

)
3) Now that our Seer (I hope he isn't dead) has either a network to start, or a wolf to sight on. so for now I will stay my vote.
Ninja Merged post (probably):
Addendum to D:

second ninja addendum. I need to stop posting when I am dead tired, that last addendum was pointless!

It'd be a crazy risk for wolves to kill one of their own. The priest shouldn't resurrect lynched players either, it's "safer" to resurrect the players that were wolved. Wolved people have a less chance of being wolves themselves due to the risk of killing their own.

On a random note.
I am just going to put this out here.
Petco's and Theslan's actions look a tad bit suspicious.
They both vote for each other early on (and both eventually end up with 2 votes). After they both have 2 votes they bandwagon onto x5 with in 2 mins (who had 0 votes), and end up getting him lynched.
Now, this could have been self preservation on both of their parts. Possibly even a planed nice self preservation (they didn't bandwagon onto some one with a vote already), however they don't say anything about that, and it could also just be wolves trying to kill some one with out raising to much suspicion.
Again, I am not really pointing fingers and calling wolf here, just pointing out some patterns that I noticed.

I noticed what Petco and Theslan did too, I just took it to be self-preservation more than anything else.
As far as why Chocolate died, I can only assume that the wolves thought he might have had a role. That has been the basis for the wolf targets early on in most games, anyway. A more experienced target would make more sense otherwise. Based on
this post, Chocolate seemed potentially like a manipulable newbie, someone the wolves should keep around. Whatever the reason, it doesn't help us find any wolves.
Seeing as how we can't get much useful from the lynching of someone that didn't vote, or from last night's wolfing, and the seer (if alive) hasn't given us anything to work with, I am once again resorting to random.org.
9 5 8
7 1 8
9 2 5
This list has two 9s, 8s, and 5s, so I use random.org again (with 1=5, 2=8, 3=9):
1 1 1
This leads me to vote for
Ana.
I'll be gone for most of tomorrow (2-hour job interview, 2-hour drive each way, visiting family while there).

why do you people always do it like that?
I just roll 1 number and take that (unless I forget and then I just take the 1st number).
and I agree, it is a good chance it is just self preservation, but the timing is a bit odd.

Hey, I was working on numbers a bit and I figgured I would toss them out for everyone to play with
Assuming the worst (X5 and Chocolate are human) we are at 9-3
We have 3 days remaining (counting today) to kill a wolf.
Each wolf kill will net us 1 extra day.
2 Guardian saves will net us 1 extra day.
The priest resurrection can be substituted for a guardian save for netting us an extra day.
A Guardian Save/Priest Resurrection will net us an extra day if we also bag a Wolf (on top of the one for the Wolf Kill).
umm, yah. (all references to days are obviously based on in game time)

Ya know, going back to that interesting voting pattern at the end of day one, it sure would be convenient if Petco, Theslan, and Eternaly were the three wolves. The first two got together to save themselves, and the third just hopped right on that bandwagon, saying that he'd change his vote if the inactive showed up within 20 minutes.
Anyway, I don't know if they're wolves or just trying to survive, but I'll stick my vote on Eternaly_Lost for now.

I saw E_Lost's vote change as well, however it is honestly the least suspicious to me. With only 20 mins left in the day there wasn't much chance that anything would change.
Again, still holding out on my vote for some sorta actual information....

GAHHHH!!!!
I compleatly messed up my number (I should not post at night).
We only have 2 days to kill a wolf, COUNTING today.
We are probably at 6-3 atm. (not 9-3, b/c I am an idiot)
The Priest Rez or Guardian save will gain us 1 day.
1 Wolf kill will also gain us a day.
Combined (priest rez/save + Wolf Kill) will gain us 2 days in total.
a Rez + a save will also gain us 2 days.
2 wolf kills will also gain us 2 days.
Numbers changed slightly because we currently have an even number of humans instead of an odd number.
umm, yah.
Ninja Addendum.
Priest, if you are alive, PLEASE bring back chocolate, it should help alot.
Also, at this point we have probably already lost a Roll (4 in 8 chance x5 was a Roll, and 4 or 3 in 7 chance Chocolate was a Roll)

All right, I've been waiting, there's almost four and a half hours left, and no real information has come up besides Thansal's count of the number of days left.
I'm just wondering about one thing myself...

E_Lost's vote confuses me quite a bit, considering that he said he might change it... within twenty minutes? On top of that, x5 already had two votes on him to one on a whole ton of other people. Had E_Lost kept his vote on Xentor, nothing would've changed, so why change it in the first place?
I'd like to hear his own reason for this, so I'm going to vote
Eternaly_Lost until he does.
Vote Tally:
Eternaly_Lost(2) - Xentor, EMP Demon
Ana (1) - im_lost
Left to vote:
Eternaly_Lost
Thansal
Nightstalker
im_lost
Petco
Theslan
Unless I missed any votes, that's the correct tally. (Whee for less activity than XI!
