64bits windows has more problems then actual benefits when used with older 3d programs or games.

I've had a buddy who also felt the need to run a 64bits Microsoft OS and after many things trying to get 3d apps and games to run on it without crashing or bugs, he finally went back to 32 bits (after some persuasion)
I'd personally go for a dual boot system 32bits for older programs (like hammer and goldsrc) 64bits for image/video/newgames or something, if I felt the need to run 64bits windows

This way you can benefit from both worlds with less stress, because your older program doesn't work as it should. (just my opinion though)
