| Yes, it's a fine day for a release. As I'm sure many of you know, I was having trouble with this one. I was feeling guilty that maybe I cut out too much detail from this model. I mean, at 116 polys, it's only 19%(!) of the original polycount of 607. When I was finished with it, I just didn't like it. It seemed too simple, and thereby too deviant from the original model. So I shoved some polygons onto the front of the model, but I didn't like that either. I didn't feel like they added enough detail to the model to justify their existance. So I put it up for a vote. Two days later, Kobayashi told me what I needed to hear - that my original vision was right and looked good. Nobody was going to complain about the missing detail, and those extra polies just made it look mediocre. I'm going to rephrase that for the people who don't read closely: The extra polygons made it look worse. It went from good to mediocre. I hadn't even considered that to be possible. But hey, you live, you learn, and the end result is that there's a new model release! |

Great job! I actually prefer this to the original model.

Bumping this for all the people that missed it. I think it got lost among all the other threads I seem to be spamming to this board

Make sure you add this (and all your models) to the official release topic.

Ya know, I have a crappy butt system, yet I'm using so many high-poly models (Brigader Wolf, SushiFX, ect) that it gets MAYBE 10 fps... if you manage to condense all this into ONE giant release topic, or better yet, a pack, I'll GLADLY use em!

Dragon_Mech:
I added my Armory to the release topic when I first put it out, but I quickly realized that if I added every model as a reply to that topic, it'd be a page or two of almost nothing but my releases (not a whole lot of people actually add their releases to the release topic). On top of that, I feel like the release topic is too large and cumbersome to be very useful. I'm still trying to think of a good way to index all of my releases. The best thing I've come up with is to plug all of my releases in every release post, and edit past release posts to plug new ones. That way, when a person finds one of my models, it's easy for them to find all of them. Obviously, that's not a great solution, but I'm still trying to think of better ones.
BulletHead:
I would use a single release topic, but I've only got a few models to go before I'm done with the marine structures, and I didn't know how many models I was gonna do when I started all this. I didn't want to run out of enthusiasm halfway through, 'cause then the community wouldn't have gotten any models. Once I get them all done, I'll release a marine structures pack, and release updated marine structure models through that.
BTW, man - I've only released 5 models... It can't be that hard to find them and install them.

You don't have to put them all in a release pack. However, it would be nice if you just keep updating your sig like you have been.
By the way, very nice model. Keep them coming.

It's funny how simple these models are, yet they look just as good as the defaults.

The sig is my bane. Just three links, and I'm already at the character limit. I could cycle out old ones for new ones, I suppose, but I still need a better long term solution. Ah well, I'm sure I'll think of something.

Why not make a topic with all your models, and keep updating the topic instead of creating new topics.
Otherwise, nice models.

Because then you get a topic 20 pages long with arms lab crits/comments on page 15, IP comments on page 2, etc...
There's no problem with making a new topic for each gorgeous piece of work

I'm considering using these babies, as i have high poly to the max everything else, might be an idea to see how much a different these great looking structures make!
Keep up the work Snappy!
