whiskas
i do modelling for Day of Defeat
check out my work at
http://dodstuff.shorturl.com

visual material in this game is EXCELLENT
animations r solid and clean
sounds give me multiple orgasms (i swear some were taken straight from starcraft)
skins r appropriate (lenses on scopes could use some work, see my site for lenses i made)
only complaint r the low poly W models, which isnt anyones fault, it just that I'm a poly #####

i'm happy and willing to model for this mod
it doesnt look like ill need to do anything though
it looks so good
::asrifle::   :D
Nomad
I'm also from the DODmod boards, although I've been banned for a long time now, not for being abusive so don't worry, and I plan to make some new gun models and maybe a soldier model.
Bronski
I'm from the DoD boards too, i don't really do any modelling or skinning.

I loved nomads work and whiska's work for dod. Can't wait to see some stuff from you guys.

They weren't. I'd love to see your proof of this, but since I know that there isn't any, I won't even bother to ask.

Join the party.
From your half-life directory, go to the file: \ns\sound\vox\asay11.wav
have a listen.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is ..\sound\misc\critters\bcrwht00.wav from the StarDat.mpq file, Starcraft's equivalent of a *.pak file.
They are exactly the same sound, and, as Starcraft was released about 4 years ago, one can deduce that this is where it came from. Hell, they're even the same filesize. 61KB

EDIT: clever me, forgot the link: http://likwid.virtualave.net/misc/bcrwht00.wav

let me know if you can't download it, and I'll see about an alternate transfer method.

Must be very proud of yourself...but I do fail to see a point?
Even if this is true (very possible), everything else is 100% orginal. I really don't understand why some of you feel the need to bash something any way you can. Forgive me if I'm reading you wrong, but it sounds like you just want to make this mod look bad.
0see3
Nobody was bashing it at first, he just said it sounded very similar to SC, enough that he thought it was taken from it. Someone then said it was, and another came in and said it wasn't. It was proven it probably was.

Nobody bashed anything. Even trying to read between the lines of these posts, I don't see anything bashing the mod or it's creators. I have yet to find a mod that's completely 100% original. Face it, it's hard to create sounds, so most borrow things.

I think a lot of the peopel who've been on these forums for a while before release, need to settle down a lot. It always seems like they're trying to pick fights or defend this mod for some unknown reason. I say, don't try and read between the lines, just take each post for what it's worth. You may not agree, but don't attack someone, and say their intentions are malicious. He pointed out a fact, something that somebody questioned, he's not trying to destroy the mod.

Geez...
Moleculor
Yes, I believe that sound is from SC. It's the only sound from SC in the entire game. I don't know if that was intended or not. Most of the placeholders for the game were starcraft sounds and were phased out over time... This could be a left over sound, or totally intentional. I don't know.
BathroomMonkey
I'd say that it's definitely an oversight . . . and probably will be replaced as soon as a suitable replacement is available.

SC sounds were used throughout the game in earlier versions as placeholders (because, well, they're tremendous sounds, and they work with the atmosphere very well) . . . but there was never any intention to keep them. Seems one just slipped by us, if it's the same.
Relic25
What everyone seems to be failing to consider (and really should) is that it is VERY POSSIBLE that certain sounds were bought or acquired from the same sound libraries as used by other developers of other games. I know I have bought a number of sounds that were used in NS (map sounds), and I hear these on television quite often. Does it mean I took them from the television shows? No.

So, still, there is no proof that the makers of Starcraft have any copyright on this one sound. They may have had to pay a license to use it too.
BathroomMonkey
Oh yeah, forgot about that . . . Flayra did have to purchase a large sound library for the various game sounds.

Relic may have hit the nail right on the head. Good call.

Edit:
Speak of the devil-- I just heard a bunch of sounds from NS on an episode of Mr. Show(!) . . . . now there's a really bizarre connection.
Licky
I'd like to say at this point (and probably should have said earlier) , that I have no intention of bashing either the mod or the dev team. I love this mod, and thoroughly enjoy playing it, I just wanted Greedo to see my point. sad.gif
0see3
And that's what I said. Some people liek to see any disagreement as a personal attack or whatever. It's completely juvenile, and this whole thing shoudl end right here. The sounds are the same, hoorah.

Now, back on topic...
