Full Version: Problem of installing NS

Hey everyone. I just bought the Half Life:Blue Shift because I want to play natural selection.

I bought it through Steam, and in the bottom of that page, it says

Free Mods: ( and there is a SEE ALL button )

after I clicked it, I saw Natural Selection is in there.

So Half Life:Blue Shift probably supports natural selection mod.

So can anyone tell me how to install it?

I downloaded the natural selection mod, and double clicked it. Then it says:

""Setup has not detected a valid Steam installation""

It asked me if I want to continue, so I pressed "Next" . I remember I installed it in the

Steam/steamapps/[my account name]/half-life blue shift/

Then I restart my computer, and check if it is in my game list.

But I see none.

So I wanna ask, what problem is this and how can I solve it? ( I want to make it work without buying Half Life 1 since Steam says the natural selection mod is one of the free mods of Blue Shift)

Thank you guys.

== 1. Natural Selection installation issues. ==
Also known as:
"Setup has not detected a valid Steam installation"

Causes:
1. Steam isn't installed on this PC in a detectable fashion
2. Half-Life isn't installed on this PC

Fixes:
1. Steam isn't installed on this PC in a detectable fashion
Download a copy of Steam from http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?ar...amnow&cc=GB , and install as usual. Login to your Steam account, and download a fresh copy of the pre-requisite files for Natural Selection.

2. Half-Life isn't installed on this PC
You need to make sure of 2 things. 1, that you do have Half-Life properly bound to your account and 2, that you have actually downloaded the files for Half-Life, and played through the Training Course AS A BARE MINIMUM.
If you don't own Half-Life (the original version, NOT Half-Life: Source, or Half-Life 2), then you need to go out, and buy yourself a copy of it. It's carried by all good stores that stock video games, and is also carried by all major online retailers. You can also purchase it direct through Steam, using either a credit card (all of the world), or using a PayPal account (except in Germany, at the current moment).
If you do own Half-life, and have bound the CD-Key to your Steam account, then Steam will automatically download the files required to play the game.

I know they said Half Life 1

but the problem is, Steam states even Half Life Blue Shift can enjoy the natural selection mod.

So if it really can't, I think Steam should take it out from the "FREE MOD" section

right?

Have you tried launching blue shift and running singleplayer at least once? Because that is a big part of getting HL to be detectable, also it is not certain blue shift is usable for NS

I can't say that Blue Shift alone will run NS, but in case it can it's why I put that part about running the training map in bold.

ok I ran through the whole training course again and I am sure I finished it.

So I wanna ask, should I install the Natural Selection to the Steam/steamapps/[my account name]/half-life blue shift ?

EDIT:

It still says "has not detected a valid Steam installation". I really don't know if I installed it into a wrong folder or ?

Natural selection is not in my steam game library. Also I can not change the game filter to natural selection

You need Half-Life to run Natural Selection. Blue Shift/Opposing Force/etc don't support mods.
