Just a little thing i noticed that i think would be a cool addition to the game. I notice on the models that there is a little 'laser' thingy on the side of the helmet. In the teaser movie this is shown in the haze and i was thinking rather than just have it a red dot on the model, actually have a short (cos a long one would have playability issues) laser beam coming maybe 1/2m from the head...similar to the Quake 3 shotgun.
Another addition to this then would be the ability to instead of having the crosshair sprite, actually use a 'laser dot' something similar to the sniper dot in TFC. Im not sure what sort of lag/overhead this could have so it may be impossible, but i think the Aliens would crap themselves if they saw 4 or 5 laserdots suddenly appear all over the hive
Just a thought that i think would add a lot of atmosphere

I absolutely LOVE this idea. However if u want the 1/2m "short" laser-sight then there will NOT be actual dots that land on you/hives. If u DO want the laser-dot to land on targets, then there would be lag and predict issues as in TFC.

I think having a short beam would look fantastic in-game. There'd be a few places where it looks silly, sure, but for the most part it'd look very cool.

I said this awhile ago, and i think it would be absolutely fantastic! Take out marine crosshairs entirely and give them a laser pointer

Also the standard red dot could go bright blue when flashed over a cloaked alien or something

that would really really sweet. i know its a lot to ask for dev team, but hell it would be worth it

About ping/lag/server issues: What about
the flashlight? It works (almost hehe) and
replacing it with a laser (while keeping some
sort of x-hair maybe) might be possible???
I don't know... But I do know that I rather have
a laser that can sweep the are checking for cloaked
aliens rather than a flashlight.
But the balance then? Well make it use up
a selfrecharging battery. 30-45 seconds
continous use will result in double time
reload?
Still it would be sweet as ****

They're planning to add them in another version, but not right now. They're also figuring out what to do with the laser sight (what would it be used for?). I liked the idea someone said about getting rid of Marine crosshairs and just making the lasersight the crosshairs. Sounds kind of cool. It would be a good tradeoff for the laser giving you away.

I heavily oppose taking out the xhairs for a lasersight. I understand it might be cool, but an option to use the lasersight perhaps with or without the xhair, or no lasersight at all, would be best.
I hope the devs understand, a few people posting in a single thread doesn't mean everyone wants this. This would change things a lot, and think about it. Marines are LOUD, and can already be parasited, making it hard to hide. Add in somethign that gives your location away always, and aliens would have it a LOT easier finding where marines are stationed, without the use of parasite.
As an option, it'd be ok, perhaps someone replacing the flashlight sprite with a laserdot or something, but as a modwide change to go from xhairs to lasers, many will be upset. Far more than the peopel who want the change.

I don't think you need to worry too much, if they ARE thinking about adding a laser-sight it will definitely be a togglable option not FORCED upon you.

laser should be toggled based. that would be cool. be even cooler if they made parts of the skin shiny, like the visor and the laser thingy on the side... oops wrong forum

Just a question, someone commented on how bad and laggy the normal laser is, and I wonderd why it's not done cleint side rather than server side. All the motion for the laser seems to be treated seperately from the player movement in normal HL. Why cant you just base the client laser dot on where the cleint character is facing rather than transfer all the info for the dot seperately?

Lag with laser pointers? How so? Take a look at TS (The Specialists) the laser pointers there are awesome, they work, and everyone can see them. As far as I know they dont lag the server any more than 12 marines unloading hmgs into 5 Onos'.
