Probably one of the biggest problems i'm seeing with a lot of people's first attempts is their use of lights.
I absolutely agree that red emergency lights are always cool... but instead of using one light (not necessarily red emergency lights) to fill an entire room, take the time to fill it with a dozen or so lights (depending on how big the room is). You end up with a better looking map instantly, with a lot more visual candy. Try and switch up the colours too. Some popular choices it seems are using white lights as your main fill, and then accenting it with small orange lights. *Edit* Daworm you seem to have the right idea. Just try and flesh out those pitch black spots and it will look much nicer. Maybe line the hallway with spot lights coming from a repeated light source down the hall. I guess my post wasn't backed up. Oh well.
![]() ![]() Click to enlarge. I forget what my smart comment was...oh, right, "Something tells me that all of our maps are going to be very well ventilated." Oh, and some new stuff:

This editor will be the death of me! Took me an hour in a half to make even just a small corridor. Hammer isn't this difficult T_T

First of all, everyone's maps look Amazing!. The Rocks in some of them are so well done.
![]() Now first part of my day i spent messing around with some tools, and after many times recreating. I finally found a good looking spooky tunnel design I like. Now it isn't much and I don't have any experience with this map editor other then today. ![]() Also some of you guys have some awesome textures that I can't seem to find. any tips so far? |

I really, love the editor there are some errors here and there, but much more easy and much faster then hammer. It feels like sketch up alot and that is a fun tool to use.
