Hey folks,
Does anyone know the current rate of fire for marine weapons? I've looked but I don't see it listed anywhere. Regards, Savant -------------------- Official MGS beta test site - you name it, I test it.

no clue. Time how long it takes to empty a clip. then divide by the size of the clip.

I'm not exactly sure what it is for 3.0, but if i remember correctly it is 10 bullets per second for the lmg, and the handgun is however fast you can click your mouse? hah...I dunno about the hmg though, or the shotgun... seems like theres a 1/2 second delay between each gl shot though. I'm curious myself now!

I timed the rates of fire sometime back in 2.0 or 2.01. The values may have since been changed, but here they are.
All times are in seconds, and are approximate. Shotgun = .67 Heavy Machinegun = .067 Grenade Launcher = .67 Pistol (cap) = .133 Mines = .5 Knife = .33 Also note that all rates of fire that are listed in Balance.txt (in the nsp folder) or in the 3.0 manual are incorrect, or are at least not measured in seconds. [edit] Updated values from recent testing: Light Machinegun - .058 Shotgun - .68 Heavy Machinegun - .067 Grenade Launcher - .67 Pistol (cap) - .133 [8/14 edit: More recent testing seems to indicate that this value actually lies somewhere between .12 and .13] Mines - .5 Knife - .33 [/edit] [8/14 edit] Might as well add the alien attack rates: Skulk Bite - .41 Parasite - .31 Leap - .53 Spit - .42 Heal Spray - .85 Bile Bomb - .78 Web - .27 Lerk Bite - .33 Spores - 1.03 Umbra - .52 Swipe - .49 Metabolize - 1.5 Acid Rocket - .52 Gore - .46 Devour - 1.04 Stomp - .78 [/edit] Due to the nature of this testing I cannot be certain of the actual attack rates. Take these numbers not as fact, but as approximations. Light Machinegun = .067
Shotgun = .67 Heavy Machinegun = .067 Grenade Launcher = .67 Pistol (cap) = .133 Mines = .5 Knife = .33 Or in rounds per second: lmg = 15 shotty = 1.5 hmg = 15 gl = 1.5 pistol = 7.5 mines = 2 knife = 3 for those who don't like to divide that much edit: I can't spell This post has been edited by Outlaw: Feb 27 2004, 12:15 AM |

By the way it's a magazine not a clip, there is a difference. I dont care where you heard it it's wrong.

I dont know if they have fixed yet, but in NS 1.0 and 1.04 the LMG was shooting faster with high FPS.
For a week or two ago I played on a public server with 100 FPS and a guy said that I am shooting faster then him, so I think they havent fixed it yet. |

Actually, it's both... Either world can be used, it's just that one is more formal than the other I believe. Most of the time I hear magazine is from military personal, police officers (who sometimes use clips too) or militant kind of people. Truthfully, it's easier to say "Gimme a clip!" in a middle of a fire fight than "Gimme a magazine!" -------------------- "Remember, your weapon was made by the lowest bidder."
"You are not superman; Marines and fighter pilots take note." "No plan survives the first encounters of combat intact." "The diversion you are ignoring, is the main enemy assault force." -Murphey's Laws |

So, in the strictest terms, an LMG and a shotty both have magazines, an HMG has a clip, and it's hard to tell what a pistol has.
PS: Of course, none of them should have any of those, because according to the mythos, the marine weapons are supposed to use caseless ammo. So you should be reloading by changing out disposable gun barrels. Of course that could never happen, because no futuristic game has ever failed to make this mistake. Even HALO didn't get that right. I wish game devs would just stop talking about caseless ammo without even looking at how the guns made by Metal Storm work... The manual lies so much it's not funny.
The figures given by civilian and converted to rps by outlaw correlate to my own personal research into rate of fire values. As an aside, I believe these results show how the hmg is truly underrated as it kicks out more damage over time than a shotgun, has a much larger clip, comparable reload time, and better accuracy. All the shotty has going for it is individual shell reloading and better damage vs. structures (hence it's a popular choice for jetpackers) |

It unfortunately does lie. As I stated previously, all rates of fire found in Balance.txt or in the 3.0 manual are incorrect, or are at least not measured in seconds. I believe the magic words between clips and magazines would be whether the cartridge is external or internal. Thus, your usual handguns would have clips (the cartridge is internal and you have to eject it) , and those machine guns would have magazines (you pull the cartridge out and replace it). The term Magazine would also be used for those WW1 machine guns where you would have to feed the ammo into the gun.
Edit: Yea, it's completly off-topic, but I just felt like adding that in. This post has been edited by Insanity~Gizmo: Mar 4 2004, 05:30 AM -------------------- "You're using a radioactive abandoned military base as a University?!?" "The rent was cheap."

The shotty has other advantages. You can get it ten seconds into the game, and it's cheaper.
Edit: Also, the hmg does half damage to structures, right? This post has been edited by i'm lost: Mar 6 2004, 04:08 AM -------------------- |

FalseX0r. That would be a belt. That's why they're called belt-fed machineguns. -------------------- I am a mutating signature virus. Copy me into your signature to help me spread.![]() |
