Hmm, it would appear that my old Logitech Elite isn't quite as invincible as I would have first though.

The WASD keys are knackered, and barely work. Don't even ask about the space bar...

I appear to have be degraded to playing long bouts of Diablo 2, seeing as all my FPS games are WASD based (I HATE the legacy arrow controls!).

So, I really need a new keyboard, and seeing as how Logitech have told me that they discontinued the Elite a long time ago, I need some recommendation for some keyboards.

The floor is open, however, should anyone mention the "Z-Board", I will take it upon myself to find out your home address, and beat you down with the knackered Elite, and jab the USB->PS/2 converter into your eye. Needless to say, I have sampled the Z-Board, and just cannot get on with it.

I would prefer a USB keyboard, seeing as I have a glut of 12 USB ports, of which I am only permanently using 3 of them. PS/2 is a option, however I would prefer USB.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, as would any addresses of where I can get one from (online or High Street, it matters not to me), HOWEVER, all companies must be based in the UK. I am NOT waiting a month for Fed-EX to deliver, and **** it up *again*...

If you can go past the UltraX mention, the UltraX Flat Keyboard by Logitech is excellent, and not excessively expensive.

What I'm currently using. (And although I am a cheapscate this keyboard's rather spiffy.\0

I would recommend a Microsoft one as well, but most people had a hatred of all things MS.

My current keyboard except mine is black. Best one i've used up to date except for my old gateway "Clicky" keyboard with programmable F keys, F1-F20 biggrin-fix.gif .

I laugh at your non-ergonomic keyboard :p

I've got a Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro. You can't get them anymore as I think they've been replaced with the Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard.

I hear that the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite is better than my pro though and MS still sell them so it might be worth a look.

I honestly find the non-ergo keyboards less comfortable ever since I got used to this one though; the curve and stuff works juuuust right. First time you use it you'll be all like "eww" but it grows on you quick :3

Clicky keyboards with BS technology for teh winnar!111

I'm using a $10 IBM keyboard. It's got no frills, except for the Windows Key and a Context Menu key.

i dont like the extra buttons either i just have the logitechs cuz i like how the keys feel
SoulSkorpion
I... um... use one with keys on it.

I don't really notice much difference between keyboards unless they move things around where they shouldn't, such as the Microsoft keyboard I'm typing on now (at uni) where the home, end, insert, delete, pgup, pgdn block is oriented vertically not horizontally and I keep pressing the wrong keys.

Well there is the Ergodex DIY keyboard. This would definitly be the ultimate ergonmic keyboard for gaming! ...and other apps like photo-editing and cad... but did i mention GAMING!?

Linky here
Geminosity
that ergodex thingy looks like a recipe for carpal tunnel syndrome :s
Zaggy
Yay the simple (old) ps/2 keyboard
Lt_Patch
Faust, the Ergodex looks more like my aging LEGO set than a keyboard. I think I'll give innovation a miss for today...

Gem, I laugh at your Natural keyboard. I appalaude you for sticking with one though, and subseqently forcing yourself to be a better typist. Miss for Microsoft...

Omega, *GRR* on the link to NewEgg, I don't order from America, not after the almighty balls-up that Fed-Ex had with my HL2 order...

Venmoch, Do NOT tell me that my eyes are telling me the truth, and that link is to eBuyer's website. I blacklisted them long ago for the most atrocious customer service, tech support, and returns.

Chrono, what you've got pictured is the vanilla Logitech Internet Navigator. My one was an Internet Navigator SE, which was later badged as the Logitech Elite. I don't like the F-Lock key, as it turns off by default. Yes Logitech, I really want to open up my email client, instead of joining the Marine team. You see my gripe?

Cereal, The UltraX looks better than my chunk that is taking up so much desk space, and I always have like the typing speed that I can get up to on a notebook keyboard. My only reservation for the UltraX is that notebook keys can be slightly fragile under continuous use. But bollox to it, I'm ordering the UX.

Now you see why it took me a long time to decide on the Elite... All I can hope is that the UX lasts as long...

Cheers for the help all.

If you want some style , get the XENIX LED-keyboard:

user posted image

I have one of those, except it's black. As you can see, many buttons have been moved together, making it almost equal to a laptop keyboard. It takes a few days to get used to it, but otherwise it's nice. The LEDs for the NumLock etc are extremely bright tounge.gif .

Watch out though, if you got a short temper: Under all buttons, there's small little separate rubbercylinder. If you hit the keyboard and buttons starts flying, it's most likely the rubberthingies start flying too, and if you got a messy room like mine, you'll never find them again!
CoolCookieCooks
i want a glowy keyboard like that except it would have the NORMAL goddamn keyboard layout.
Lt_Patch
Holy bejesus Zyn, it's hard enough to sleep at night with the 2 ultra bright LED's on my WaveMaster going all night, let alone with the added bling of 30-odd LED's on the keyboard illuminating the ceiling like some like of neo-church uplight!
CoolCookieCooks
ka-ching.

I cant use a directional-key type like xenix keyboard. I use the arrow keys and keypad for everything except mostly-unused commands in games. I played at a lan once and everone thought 'WTH' when they saw that I dont use wasd for computer tounge.gif

We are a dying breed Dr Fuzzy.

Arrow keys FTW!

Numpad 2468 ftw!

The person who introduced me to HL used numpad, and he's the only person i know to use it. Except he switched to WASD

I use a saitek pcgamer keyboard. I love it very much. http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp...N82E16823175101

I picked up a decent memorex one for 20 bucks at CompUSA. Just kinda walked in looking for a cheap keyboard (though wanting a logitec elite) and found it.

I would reccomend it just cause the keys don't have hard springs and it seems to be durable enough. 2 years of almost explusive fps gaming with WSAD, and no noticable wear and tear.

This one

so its gotten alot cheaper, still a good buy for the feel and durability.
Fatal_Error
I use the Logitech MX Duo. The Elite is very comfortable, and I have no troubles with my F-Lock. I use the Arrow Keys, and just use the keyboard itself for binds. I have my bottom-side button on my MX-700 on jump, so a press of my thumb brings me a quick jump. When this keyboard dies, I'm getting another wireless elite.
Seph_Kimara
I use a logitech deluxe access keyboard. It was cheap, and it works.

I just wish the F-Lock key would default to being on.
Faust
My apologies, after further review of usage of the ergodex DIY keyboard, your ideally supposed to already own a standard keyboard. When playing games or other key-demanding apps, is when you switch to this one.

As to the user who claimed this would be carpel tunnel heaven? Only if you set it up the right(?) way will you get carpel tunnel. The point is to give you full freedom to set up key the way which feels most comfortable to you, instead of being confined to a pre-set layout.

I'm also sure they would give you sample layouts in their manual as well.

Numpadders are a small minority, but at least they're sane. Seriously, you use the arrow keys? I haven't done that since Duke3D.

My recent keyboards have all been the Microsoft basic one, whatever the latest name change is these days. (Multimedia I think.)

In the cheaper end of the spectrum, durable, and a semi-firm key pressure which I personally like.

Okay, it is a M$ product, but they are hated for their buisness practices, not because their products suck. (With a few notable exceptions.)

As for gaming layout, I personally use RDFG. It's the same as WASD except you have more keys under your pinky you can press without taking your fingers off the movement keys. It also keeps your finger away from that evil Windows key so you don't press it accidently.

And having used an ergonimic keyboard, they are lovely if your typing lots of papers or similar work with pages of words to type. For anything else though, I would stick with a straight run keyboard, that break in the middle renders half the keyboard unusable if you have one hand on the mouse.

I use arrows! And frankly I can get away with it.

(I have long fingers! biggrin-fix.gif)

Take one £2 Compaq keyboard that uses a different key layout to your country's standard (In this case, it has a US layout and i'm in the UK).

Use spoon, key, knife, whatever, to remove the windows keys.

Smoke daily for a year or two over the keyboard.

And in the end, you have an awesome one like mine.

that is an exceptional idea. Only wish it wouldnt damage the keyboard to remove them with a chainsaw or a pistol sad-fix.gif

I'm just wondering... why remove those keys? confused-fix.gif

And I'm also wondering... What do you guys think of those comfort keyboards that are slanted in the middle (like a V shape)?

If you press that one button accidentally, you'll minimize any game that you may be playing.

Ok, if you never plan on gaming.
Cereal_KillR
Or, you can deactivate them wit a small program.
SgtFury
Which is the most silent keyboard you can get? I`m always getting complained at for the clicking. confused-fix.gif
Geminosity
I've never, ever hit the windows keys by accident so I don't really see the problem with them :p

As for ergonomic boards (the v slanties) I game with mine fine. I guess if you used rdfg instead of wasd it'd be problematic but I don't so no difficulties for me :3
